Ok, so I've had the game about three weeks now and i'm playing online. I've logged about 2.5 days of online time so far (according to my profile) and I'm a larger Silver Star ( Brigadier General, I believe about a 43) but I'm still having problems figuring out the best "weapon setup".

Please list the "classes" that you feel are the best. Which weapon, what add-on's, and what "perk combo's" do you guys/gals find the most effective?! I've spent the most time with the M4Carbine with red-dot scope, double-tap, deep impact and "3frags". I do pretty well in the light maps...but not too well in the darker ones (vacant/pipeline/bog). Any suggestions?

Thanks.

With larger maps you generally want to go with an assault. Smaller more confined maps go with a sub machine gun. They are perfect for CQC Close Quarter Combat.

Something that i usually roll with for assault looks like the following:

G3 + M9/Deagle + Stun + Frag x3 + Stopping Power + Deep impact.

Submachine setup:

P90 + Any side weapon + Stun + Frag x3 + Double tap/stoppin power + Deep impact/marty

Setup for Rushing in - P90+ .50 Call

Perk 1 Claymore

Perk 2 Overkill

Perk 3 Martyrdom for normal matches - Last Stand for Hardcore matches so you don't kill your own team mates by accident

Setup for Camping ( for sniping) - .50 Call + G3C

Perk 1- Claymore

Perk 2- UAV Jammer - Overkill if you want to have the G3C

Perk 3- Dead Silence

The most adaptable setup in my experience is

M4 with Red Dot

Frag x3

Stopping Power

Deep Impact

This is a good setup to get used to CoD4 and will work in most situations. However, once you get better, you will start to realise that the M4 has quite a few limitations. At long range, it isn't great and it isn't very powerful.

I don't usually change the perks, so I'd go with a G3 or M16 once you get better.

For those close quarters maps, the P90 rules supreme, except on shipment where I would use the auto shotgun.

If you want to try sniping, I would just change the first perk to claymore, and use the Barrett .50cal if you have it. I don't rate the semi-auto snipers other than the Barrett, so go with a bolt action if you haven't got the Barrett yet. Hope this helps, if you need any more specific advice, just ask.

The best thing is to create different classes for the ways you like to play on the different maps.

My classes:

Perks: 3xFrags, Stopping Power, Last Stand.

Support: (Good for choke points)

- M249/RPD with Red Dot Sight.

Perks: 3xFrags, Stopping Power, Deep Impact.

Stealth:

- M4/AK47/G36cwith a silencer.

Perks: Bandolier, UAV Jam, Dead Silence.

Sniper:

- M21/Dragunov/Beretta .50 cal.

Perks: 2xClaymores, UAV Jam, Iron Lungs.

Sub: (Close Quarters)

- MP5/AK74u with silencer.

Perks: Bandolier, Slight of Hand, Last Stand.

i've found a weapon setup that is largely underused for a variety of reasons but gives you a lethal combo of range and stopping power. a lot of people don't use the m14 because its semi auto and has high recoil. still less use the ACOG scope because it has a little sway in it. however, i've found that putting stopping power on an m14 gives the user the only one hit kill headshot of the assault class rifles on normal modes and a one hit kill anywhere on the body in hard core. enter the acog, with its advanced zoom, you can use this setup at medium to long range effectively, and since you only need one shot to the head, unlike every other assault rifle, you don't need to worry about the recoil as you must with othe weapons that are either fully auto or take more than one headshot, or both. it is the most versatile weapon for medium to long range play as it is as effective as a sniper with stopping power, is very accurate, and is semi auto, so there is no wait between shots. also, with the acog, you get a decent zoom for headshots at rane, but without the massive sway of true sniper rifles when scoped. and if you can click or pull the trigger fast, it can be reasonably deadly in close range, especially with steeady aim, since it only takes to rounds to kill.

so m14 with ACOG, Desert Eagle

Bandolier: (once you get used to the semi auto and the ACOG, you'll find yoursefl survivng a lot longer on all but the most confined maps (Shipment, vacant))

Stoppin power: (the only non sniper rifle one hit headshot)

your choice, Steady aim for close quarters, Deep impact to catch hiding people, Matryrdom for anyone who might sneak up on you while scoped tey all work well.

learn how to bait your opponents, IE. if i have a shotgun and there's a guy across a parking lot i have a very low chance to kill him, thats why i'll pull out my pistol and just start firing, more often than not he'll run around the corner thinking i'm in last stand or somethign, then he gets a face full of shotty.

also the most important one, learn the maps, learn exactly where to throw you grenades at the start of a match, in most maps there are at least 2 or three chokepoints that the enemy will run through, and if you can get to them quick enough you're gaurenteed a kill or 2.

here is what i prefer. Remeber, modify these classes everyone is suggesting to fit your own preferences.

RunNgun (general combat)

P90 red dot sight

USP silenced (best pitol imo- minimum recoil, same dmg as the other 2 "small" pistols. Desert eagle, though powerful, has too much recoil, and only 7 bullets per clip)

x3 flash (toss in a building in which there is an enemy camper / in a better postion then urself)

stopping power (kill in one less bullet)

steady aim (always hipfire in CQC)

Stealth

MP5 silenced

M9 (shares amo with MP5, so a little like bandolier)

x3 flash

UAV Jammer

dead silenced (lets u creep up on smart bats, i find steady aim isnt really required to hip fire successfully with the MP5)

Search and Destroy

M1014 (semi-auto shotty for close quarters)

M4 carbine, silenced (for long range)

stun (if i get an "X" marker when i toss a stun in a room, i know theres a stunned enemy inside. so i just toss a nade in, and BAM he cant get away lolz)

clamores (usefulness goes without saying really in this game mode)

overkill (uhhh.. duh obvious)

dead silence (stealth is extremely important in this game moed, as only 1 life per round)

I average around 8-15 kills per round with that class, and win the great majority of my games, as long as my team doesnt entirely suck lolz.

Domination

whatever gun i feel like using

USP silenced

stun

C4 (place on flags, when it is announced u are losing the flag, double tap square to detonate)

ur choice

ur choice

really only important thing in domination is C4 to guard flags xD

First off i would suggest to get a few friends to play with, it makes the game alot easyier and more fun.

Next i would say just try a whole heck of alot of differnt combos for your guns and perks (as everyone has differnt prefferences).

ALso what mode do you enjoy playing the most? Because that will play some part in what you want to have.

For me i play Attack and Defend or Hardcore Attack and Defend the most, and i usually use the M4 with red dot and as far as perks go, i switch them up alot, but i usually have the HIDING FROM THE RADAR one (UAV or something...cant remember the name sorry) so enemys cant spot me on the map, I also ALWAYS have my Claymores on *i get sooo many kills with those lol* and then i also enjoy the conditioning one, as you can sneak up behind people nicely. But yeah, just try differnt combinations and see what your most comfortable with.

M4 or Shotgun for me usually with my Perks changing often, but i ALWAYS have my CLAYMORES ready to go (:

PS: Ohh yeah one last thing.. if the whole other team is using Jaugernot (im tired so excuse the spelling), then i put on Mardydam to get them back heehe

From my experience I have used all the guns and really there isn't a gun out there that is perfect for every situation. Sometimes you need the long range and sometimes you need the short range. The only thing that I've found that makes the difference in the game is your team. I've come across way to may groupies out there that have the host on there side and when they start losing or my side gets a friendly choper they disconnect the whole game like some ***. I thought IW fixed this problem but I guess not. Oh well enjoy doing that BS while you can because in future games its going to be harder and harder to pull that BS off just cause your getting your unskilled *** wooped.

Lately I've been using a M40A3 with a ACOG scope. Perks are bandolier(barely run out of ammo), stopping power(hit them in the chest in a regular match = instant kill), and steady aim. Steady aim with it because walking through a hallway and a guy pops out, you can usually hit him if he's close for a instant kill with SP. Its because to take a Desert eagle with you though since the M40A3 isn't always what you should use while on the move.

Also on CQC maps I usually take a MP w/ RDS, bandolier, stopping power, and deep impact, its powerful at close to medium range. Although firing at medium range isn't recommend unless you fire in bursts.

I strongly suggest that you try out you setups and try and figure out which one suits you best. That's one of the things I really enjoyed when I began the game.

I'm not going to list classes but give you some advise . Smgs : The best silenced smg in game is the P90, it has excellent dmg and range and 50 bullets wich makes flanking before enemy reacts very easy, it also gives you a higher mobility / duration on spring than the other smgs. Unsilenced the AK 74u without any attachment has superb damage and accuracy, same as the Mp5 . Assult Rifles : An M-16 with stopping power can one click kill anyone without jaggurnaught, granted that all 3 bullets land on target (the chance of them to land decrease as your target is further away from you in distance). The AK 47 is the most powerful automatic assult rifle, it also has a higher accuracy with its iron sights (without the red dot). Sniper Rifles : M40A3 is the best all around sniper rifle, it has good accuracty and balance(when you go from hip to sniper zoom) and its a one shot kill with stopping power on a non jaggernaught enemy. On hardcore the Dragunov is better unless you go with the Overkill perk. Light machine guns: The RPD with grips is the best due to, its power, high accuracy, stability and non obscuring iron sights. Perks : Stopping power, is a great perk, the more you get used to land shots though you can drop it for other perks. UAV jammer, is a good perk when flanking the enemy and catching them off gaurd. Slight of hand is a decent perk for flanking or being near enemy spawn points. Deadly Silence is a must used perks for Smgs, its very effective in flanking and ambushing other players while undetected by your movement. Deep Impact is a nice perk for assult rifles, superb for light machine guns and can come in handy for smgs but I never use it for them.and its pretty good for sniper rifles after you get used with them. Bandoiler is a bad perk, 60 bullets is more than enough to finish 5 players, and usually you would never live long to actully reap the value of the extra bullets, and in case you run out of ammo you can always take the weapons of the players you killed. 3 Frags / 3 Special grenades are very useful in almost all situations. C4 is useful guarding bombs / bases. Claymores are fantastic if you place them at a good location and an angle. Rpgs are extremly useful if you get the hang of them. Pistols : The desert eagle is the best of them, its the most powerful and 7 bullets are good enough. you will only need other pistols for silencers or the m90 because its bullets adds to the mp5 bullets, giving you 92 instead of 60 without bandoiler. This is just my opinion and experience of what works best, you must know that alot of players consider P90 users and 3 fraggers as noobs. It doesn't matter though play the game the way you enjoy it and chose what works for you best, alot of weaker setups work, the game depends more on skill and reaction /tactics / teamwork than what you chose for your perks, for normal Stopping power is sometimes Mandatory, in hard core not so much if at all. Hope this helps :) .

Rule number one... don't spamming the P90 like most people out there.. rule number 2... stay away from the semi automatic sniper rifles, stick with the bolts (they're a little harder to use but in the long run you'll be better off.. 1 shot, 1 kill.. just like how sniping should be) Large maps... M16, G3, or M40 with Bandolier (claymores for M40) stopping power, and steady aim (iron lungs for M40) smaller maps... MP5 (w/ Silencer) or Scorpian (w/ silencer) bandolier, stopping power or UAV jammer depending on your knowledge of the maps, and steady aim.. Shipment... M4, 3 frags, slight of hand, last stand... DEAGLE! best all around class G36C (w/ any attachment other than n00b t00b)- Bandolier, stopping power, steady aim
