New Metal Gear Solid Named: Peace Walker

Apparently the new MGS game for PSP has been named.

June 1, 2009- Over the weekend, Qore inadvertently let it slip thatthe PSP GO was realand coming out this fall and that a new Metal Gear was coming to Sony's portable platform. Today, it looks like that game might have gotten a name -- Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker.

Over on Games Press, a site for industry professionals that gathers press releases and gaming assets, the list of games that KonamiDigital Entertainment is showing at E3 now promotes Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker for the PSP with a release date of 2010.

As if that news wasn't exciting enough, the posting also states that Metal Gear Solid: Rising -- which was announced at Microsoft's E3 press conference this morning -- is coming to the PlayStation 3 and PC as well as the Xbox 360. Hopefully, Sony's E3 press conference tomorrow morning will shed some light on this whole situation.

have you seen the pics? there is one with a bunch of soldiers, wearing masks similar to laughing octopus, and the patch on their arm is the same as Big Boss. the patch that says something like Soldiers without Borders around a skull image. so it seems like he is a merc now(agree/disagree?)

and maybe you can use em like in MGS:PO but im doubting it, and hopingthat doesnt happen.

So, what are your hopes and expectations for this game? I want it to be like snake eater, and take advantage of the jungle setting with the camo and survival gameplay. The part where he's using the "sky hook" a la The Dark Knight seems to point toward a capture/recruitment mechanic similar to portable ops. I hope there is co-op, but only on an optional basis. If I want to do solo missions without friends, or (god forbid) AI teamates then I shoud have that ability.

It would be cool if there was Octo Camo. I mean in the pics there were people with masks on that looked like Laughing Octopus, no?

To tell you the truth I think a Raiden game would've worked better on PSP. Since the slogan is "Lightning Bolt Action," it'll probably be more action based. And the PSP definitely handles action games better. Sure Portable Ops was good (So I hear), but the PS3 can of course handle the controls better. I'm still fine with the set-up though, Raiden is my favorite character. :P

Indeed! In fact I should get back to playing FF VII on my PS3. :lol:

I find that these PSOne games actually look A LOT better on the PSP screen than on my HDTV. The games kind of look like ass when you have to upscale them to 1080p.

Maybe the game can take place in San Antonio and be called Walker, Texas Ranger!

but look like i cant resist, gonna get PSP3000 and all the MGS released so far on it xD

I am SO psyched for this game. I think it's gonna turn out a lot better than Portable Ops. I'm not saying Portable Ops is bad (it's actually one of my favorite PSP games), but I can tell that Peace Walker is going to be amazing.

MGS: Rising sounds pretty cool, too, although I don't like what they've replaced "Tactical Espionage Action" with. "Lighting Bolt Action"? I just think that that sounds kinda cheesy. Oh well, they're both gona be great games no matter what the titles are. And besides, Raiden is my favorite non-Snake character :D.

to comment on rising and its new form of action: Raiden, Taking the Stealth out of Ninja it would seem.

but this game does seem pretty cool. Im kinda curious at the moment if it will be like SE&PO with the survivalist mentality, where every ration a feast and a rat is a snack.

im also curious what other characters will return in it and what new enemies and allies will show up. i still think this is going to cover big boss and his future development plans for his ideal world

From the trailer it looks like the gameplay is identical to PO, which means my dream came true... a PO sequel... thank you, Hideo Kojima!

Apparently Kojima is focusing on Peace Walker. He's completely involved in Peace Walker, and only partially in Rising. Konami begged Kojima to bring the franchise to the 360, and now look what happened. MGS Peace Walker is Metal Gear Solid 5 to him.

I don't see why MGS 5 must be on PS3. I mean Kojima is a freaking genius, if anyone then he knows how to impress the crowd even on a handheld. So far everyone was crying for no serious PSP games, now we have one, and people complain, saying it instead should be on either X360 or PS3. I'm perfectly satisfied with his decision. Peace Walker also doesn't have a number in its title, so it's not '5'. It's only a serious, well-done sequel to MGS 3 and PO. I can't wait to play it.

It's not just Kojima's loyalty to Sony systems, it's his loyalty to gamers. From MGS1 all major titles have been on Sony consoles (Excluding remakes of course).

I'm pretty sure that Kojima is aware of how bad the PS3 is doing, so if he doesn't like the idea of Rising, he won't be directly involved. Kojima is so awesome! :D

Well I have to be honest. PS3 has a nice future to look forward to, this E3 showed its power and potential, and many people will consider it as an option at hardcore gaming. I don't think Peace Walker is on PSP because PS3 has problems. Kojima made an awesome army-managing system for Portable Ops and he was interested in a sequel for it. Other than that, it was a request from his own son. And since PO sold well, there was nothing in the way of a new serious MGS game for the PSP. Besides, Sony is pushing PSP nowadays, so I guess these many little things together played a huge role in Peace Walker coming to PSP.

Either way, this is going to be awesome. I'll still need to get my hands on Portable Ops, though. :(

Well get it fast because it's a great portable game. In fact, I'm convinced it's the best PSP game so far. At least it's the one I liked the most...

I've never been a fan, but this game looks very promising for the fans... Kojima is a genius, with an obvious love and sense of humor about what he has brought into the world... a true icon.

There's been a lot of talk about the 4 Snakes seen in the trailer... Does anyone else think that it's just a hint of online-play?

Also, Kojima said in the Konami Press conference that more people can hide in one box now.
