Mhat is the difference between the two? If i have an old one with the chip still in it, can it be done by emulation if i choose it to? Will they have an update that will allow the old models to do it via emulation?Groove60
That a good question one would have to believe there would be an update im sure there would be
I went to bestbuy today to finally go get my ps3. They were sold out but are getting a shipment of 80 tonight. Could these be the new ones with no emotion engine?? I wanted to go grab one before they start with the software BC in the US. How safe am i to go grab one of these tonight and still have the ps2 chip. treebark_basicI think you are very safe. Sony hasnt even announced the removal of the chip for other territories yet. When they do I expect them to give at least a couple of weeks notice before it happens. I doubt they would just switch them and not tell anyone. They could probably get into legal trouble for it if they did.
is there any perk to getting the one with software BC??? treebark_basicNone that I can see. Sony has stated time and time again that they are interested in making new ps3 games and not making ps2 bc perfect. But fanboys will continue to dream about upscaling for old games. And even if they did which I highly doubt there is no reason why the older systems wouldnt get the benefit. Now if you are willing to wait long enough those software BC systems will probably get the rumble controller packed-in in the future. But who knows how long that will be.
Sony is a company that wants to give ALL its users the features it presents. In the light of recent events with the black box, Sony talks about this. If the software emulation were to in fact upscale ps2 games, then they will no doubt release a patch to disable the emotion engine, make the ps3 software emulated and produce better picture quality for ps2 games. No doubt about that.shamu732I'm sure they'll find a way to use software emulation with PS3s with EE in them, but Phil has gone on the record to say that they can't outright disable the chip. Maybe they'll just release a firmware update that hands its' jobs off to cell and just becomes useless.
I've got a question, I've got a JP PS2 and since a short while a Sony Bravia LCD TV. PS2 games aren't particular great on TV with the PS2, especially not games such as FFXII, KH2, Dark Chronicle (Dark Cloud 2 in the US), Rogue Galaxy, etc.etc. A few games have the 480p option, but that's only about 4 out of 60 games. I wasn't really planning of buying a PS3 but then I read these rumors about upscaling updates. One advices me to buy the console "now", before the new models arrives but another one tells me to wait. What's best to do? Is there any difference with PS2 games on the PS3 comparing to the PS2 right now?
I wasn't really planning of buying a PS3, as there's not really a game released for me at this moment, so could really use some good advices.
Thanks!!!
