I'd be interested to see the download list at launch if this is real. Have a bad feeling Sony would take this opportunity to only offer their game selection and charge you a few more bucks than UMD retail for most titles. Just look at the current PSN prices, nearly everything can be found 3 to 5 bucks cheaper in stores.

Never understood that. You would think it would be 3 to 5 bucks less when you aren't paying for a hard copy.

Hmm looks legit I guess. The analog stick placement seems uncomfortable, but then I haven't held it yet. Otherwise, the most interesting thing about this is the video out port. It seems that audio and video will now come out of one port, and the user will still be able to use their headphones at the same time. I wonder if it will output HD video now. No picture of the USB port, but I suppose that would be the same. Anyway, looks quite a bit smaller, and conceivably lighter. Not really worth it for me, but it will be interesting to see whether this item will be sold along side the psp-3000, or whether it is replacing the 3000.

[QUOTE="Vexx88"]Oh and just restating the fact for people who are not paying attention. ITS NOT THE PSP2 What makes you think the PSP2 would come out before Nintendo's next handheld anyway ?mushi799

what does that have to do with the PSP GO? Just because this isn't the "PSP 2" does not mean there couldn't have touchscreen, 2nd analog or better design. You're thinking what Sony was thinking. Which is why they are losing.

Quit saying 2nd Analog For teh fact that you can't use it on older games nor newer games. 2nd where the hell would they put it make the D-Pad small as the gamecube? No thanks. I would prefer to have 1 decent analog and an amazing D-pad than a crappy D-pad and and 2 ridiculously over sized sticks and a smaller screen

I don't care really about the 2nd analog (but it's gonna happen sooner or later), but if Sony was trying to make a splash and excite developers and gamers alike with the PSP GO, they failed. After all it's said and done, it's just a UMD-less PSP, that's it.

Guess we have to "wait" for psp 2.

I would never stick an expensive open screen gaming machine in my pocket, so the smaller size does not mean anything but a smaller screen to me. They should have made the screen on the inside like the last two Nintendo handhelds. The built in memory is cool, but I don't seen any other advantage to purchasing this version.

My first gen PSP has finally given up. Random cracks on the casing, badly ghosting screen, dead pixel and now the battery won't charge. Was interested in buying a new PSP but this won't play any of my old games. So unless they come up with some way for me to play them, not gonna pick this up.

Fortunately for me, I sold all my UMD's and bought some games off PSN. All I need to do is save some money to make up for the difference of the trade-in value of my 2000.

If you guys think about it, the psp will be getting more games, because of this.

Why do you ask. more people will be buying games, which will make developpers look towards the PSP-GO before looking at the DS.

This is a smart move from sony in my opinion.

Sadly i wont buy this when it comes out, I would prefer to see it evolve.

Just my opinion.

It would be nice to have all my games on one memory stick so I don't have to keep changing those UMDs around. Also, UMDs fall apart to easily and buying used PSP UMDs are always a chore since it's hard to find ones in good condition. But the problem is, all my good games are already on UMDs, so I guess I'll have to buy the newer download games from now on, which kind of sucks in a way. It's good and bad. Some cool benefits but also some negative things to deal with.

There was a rumor about the Go a couple months ago, and they talked about having UMD conversion, so I'm sure it won't leave the PSP fans hanging.

How would they do that? Buy a separate UMD converting drive?

I suppose not going to the store for games anymore would save me some gas money :P

I do hope they implement some sort of UMD -> download tradeoff or something though. Take your UMDs to a game store and get free PSN vouchers for them?(that seems like the most reasonable route to me)

I don't even know what they might make the starting price of the Go though... back to $300 like the "good ol' days" maybe. I would be surprised if it was less.

Why would they increase the price by that much? They took stuff out and made it smaller. They didn't up the specs, increase the screen size or add a camera like Ninty did with the DSi. I wouldn't be suprised if it costed the same or only $10~$20 more.

From what I saw in that leaked video, Sony is going for the on-the-go approach, and they want developers to make games for short bursts of play. This is cool, but I'm hoping that they also soon release a mega ultra-powerful PSP2 that is meant for long periods of playing console/PC quality games (Crysis PSP anyone?). It's got to have tons of RAM

people everywhere are reacting to this like wild fire. mostly negative about it. first off, none of us here has tried it out yet so we do not know if it feels comfortable in our hands once we try it out. secondly, i do hate the design, but who knows once i try it out i might even like it. people need some patience. today news goes around like wild fire and people take everything they read as granted and don't care to find out themselves first hand.

i think sony made a very bold move getting rid of the UMD drive. i applaud sony for that. they have always been known to make a bold move into the future. we always have to move forward. you guys have to understand, first were tapes.. people loved their tapes. along came the compact disc(cd player) and i am sure lots of people complained what they would do with their old golden tapes and they too did not want to purchase cd players because of the same situation we are facing now. then came mp3 and digital music and cd players started to die out. this same thing is going on. sony is kind enough to make this process a gradual phase instead of making the old psp models totally obsolete. they said they will have both psp3000 and psp go on the market and will release both umd's and a digital copy for downloads for those that prefer physical copy or those that prefer digital copy and portablity more. wake up people, there is always change and we need to embrace it if we move towards the future. i too will miss my umd games, but i will play them if i really must on my psp2000. you guys are looking at all the bad things and not looking at any of the good things to this new change of psp go. first of all, a 16 gb memory will mean game developers can create games that are bigger than 1.6gb and will have more content on it. umd discs have a limit for game capacity. ps3 games are way bigger than 1.6gb and this is why a lot of ported games from console to psp has so much less content than the console versions do. more space means more in game contents for us gamers. i have had ps1 games sitting in the corner gaining dust and i never even bother to play them any more. backward compatibitily is always nice but most of the games for ps1, psp(umd) will probably be offered for download. if you know how they are always available anyways. this download only also will cut down piracy more (hopefully) and that means better games for us. i am no fan of the psp go, but all i am saying is, give it a chance instead of being all negative before you even tried it out. its time to move on.. kids.

about not getting a 2nd thumb stick, yea i do agree it was needed, but its a good thing though. if new games were made with a 2nd thumb stick in mind, then we ALL would have to purchase this psp go in order to play those games. sony is doing this change gently so they can see how this download only games works for psp and then maybe in the future they will make a psp2 which will have a 2nd thumbstick just for new games and then our good old psp and psp go will be obsolete. i do think they could have atleast put a camera on the psp go. i mean my tiny 3 year old cellphone has a 2megapixel camera on it. how hard could it have been to have a built in camera to take pictures as well on the go. the best advice i can give is, just wait.. read the reviews first, find out its weakness and strengths then try it out yourself from someone you know, then make the decision weather to purchase or not. just reading other's opinion who have not even tried it out yet is a path for failure.. and i can see it coming a mile away.

They just could've taken out the second analog's use for the PSPs. It would've worked fine. PSP Go users could control the camera while the PSP users could use a button or button combination to center the camera... Then again... A PSP Overlord comes to mind.

A camera? Everybody, even I, would say they are copying Nintendo. I would hate the idea of having another gaming system with a terrible camera. Just no...

[QUOTE="Cody13_2012"]We'll see if it's real in just a couple of days at E3, the look of it doesn't really seem to fit Sony's style.AppleBlade

I am pretty sure it's real. Multiple sources are reporting it.

With GS reporting it now it looks like I'm probably wrong, although 16gb of space isn't nearly enough.

copying nintendo?? is nintendo the first portable device to make a camera on their device? no. camera has been around for ages on cellphone. so just cuz psp put a camera on their system doesn't mean they are stealing some crazy technology from nintendo. i dont see how it would be a bad idea to have a camera thats decent so ppl can take pics on their psp if they dont have a camera with them but have their psp.

They had a camera for the PSP before the DS, though yes it was a peripheral and not built in. Though, you can say that Nintendo was first because the GameBoy had a camera, but oh well. :P

Yes it would be copying Nintendo, or a grand coincidence. We're talking about a gaming system, not just a general device. It's a terrible idea because for a decent quality camera Sony would need to spend much more money and the bulk would go up. Either we would pay more or it would be the first PS3s all over again.

They have similar appearances, menu styles, and functionality. Adding a built-in camera would further reduce the differences between the two. Adding a built-in camera would make it seem like Sony's version of the DS.

huh? yes you do need an explanation. sorry i am not as fast as you are. just cuz nintendo ds has a camera that means sony should'nt make one or then everyone will say psp is copying nintendo's style? who gives a beep what nintendo ds has. i only care about what other uses a psp has. its a multi media device and it having a camera only makes it more useful portable device.

They have similar appearances, menu styles, and functionality. Adding a built-in camera would further reduce the differences between the two. Adding a built-in camera would make it seem like Sony's version of the DS.

if thats true, then why do you think every cell phone brand now comes with a camera built in? i am sure one company came up with the idea to put a camera on their cellphone, and the rest joined the band wagon. there is a reason for that.. ITS USEFUL. great logic though. dont put something useful that people might use on your device cuz it will look like you are copying your competitors. if they followed your logic, then only one brand (the one who started cellphone cameras) would be the only brand with a camera on their cellphone and all other brands would not put it because it would be COPYING!

I personally wouldn't mind a camera on my PSP. I go to a lot of car shows so that would be very handy for me.

i am sure it did, thats why you replied with one sentence instead of carrying on defending your copying theory. back to the psp go discussions..

As amusing as that was... Yeah, having a camera on the PSP Go would be useful. Unfortunately it's impossible, since it's coming out this fall and it's been leaked.

Unless somebody has a time machine and goes back to kill the PSP Go designer, then oh well.

Got bored with the discussion and after a mild altercation with a certain Darth Psychosis, I learned that not all disagreements aren't worth an resolving, this being one of them.

New PSP-2000 with 4 GB Memory Stick Pro Duo for $77...about 3 weeks ago.

Yeah...I'm the one laughing now.

This new PSP is horrible in my opinion. Love the PSP Slim.

What's the deal with Memory Stick Micro though? Apparently it will be faster, but seriously...it is NOT necessary. I have no problems swapping out Memory Sticks

i have heard games are faster when they are on memory stick (loading especially), rather than when u are playing off a umd spinning to load.. so who knows it might make loading faster since its on a memory stick. i am glad though they decided to keep a slot for a memory stick pro duo. imagine if we only had the 16gb micro and there was no slot for a normal memory stick. that would be classic. no umd! no memory stick pro duo! only micro memory stick 16gb. only sony's designers are capable of some random crazy idea like that. hey mark my words, they will do that some time in the future on a new psp go 2 model.

Just no...

KurodaMurasaki

copying nintendo?? is nintendo the first portable device to make a camera on their device? no. camera has been around for ages on cellphone. so just cuz psp put a camera on their system doesn't mean they are stealing some crazy technology from nintendo. i dont see how it would be a bad idea to have a camera thats decent so ppl can take pics on their psp if they dont have a camera with them but have their psp.

Yes it would be copying Nintendo, or a grand coincidence. We're talking about a gaming system, not just a general device. It's a terrible idea because for a decent quality camera Sony would need to spend much more money and the bulk would go up. Either we would pay more or it would be the first PS3s all over again.

sony has been copying nintendo since the very first ps1 came out and btw this new psp looks crap 3000 looks a lot better and bigger screen too

The PS1 spawned from a peripheral Nintendo had Sony Design for them. Not necessarily Sony copying them, more like Nintendo shooting themselves in the foot.

the 1st ps1 controller has no analog, when the n64 was released they rereleased a new controller with dual analog and when ninty released the rumble pak sony released a new controller with dual shock so they arent copying whatsoever??

LOL the whole world revolves on one company taking someone else's product and making it better, slapping on a different name on their product and marketing it. i don't see why all off a sudden you are so worried about sony copying nintendo when in this new era of products if you want to survive you either innovate something radical or learn from others, take their product make it better, and then slap your own logo on it. oh wait i am way over my head again. i guess i need to refresh my marketing courses from uni again.

i may be wrong on this since i rarely follow up on consoles, but didn't xbox live come out first and then sony made something similar for online play? i am pretty sure if we look back at sony OR any other company including nintendo.. everyone takes the best and copy one another. we better get back to the psp GO discussion before the mods decide to have a power trip and lock this thread too.
