It's just a rumor but it doesn't surprise me if it happens to be true. The 360 won't last long without a new format for its games. As for the PS3 standing a chance, you bet it will. People will then realise that it's MS that is ripping them off and all this PS3 bad mouthing will turn into love.

Yes, a great chance. Regardless if MS releases a new xbox or not. The Zephyr is MS's attempt of not being seen as obsolete.I could agree with that. I'm still interested what the out cry, or lack there of, will be with that decision. I know that I'm waiting for the Zephyr, but how many people are going to feel cheated?Â
There will be a new xbox in that time, but I highly doubt its going to be called 720...Theempire30
MS will probably name it the Xbox 4 and hope no one notices. Just to make sure that it's a higher number than the PS3's. :P MS's marketing group most likely didn't want to call the second xbox the xbox2 because of the preception of 2nd best or 2nd class to the PS3's numbering scheme.
yah i heard MS say they wanted to come out with a new console in the next 3 yrs, as far as the zephyr i could care less about it i dont want another black console the HDD will probably cost a fortune if the 20 is 100$ that is definietly were ps3 got MS beat since you can just buy a laptop HDD and be good to go for more space.

I think there's a large chance that Microsoft will release a next next gen Xbox not long after Halo 3. Look what they did w/ the original Xbox. It lasted 4 years before they came out w/ the 360 (01-xbox, 05 - 360). That means by 09 we'll be seeing a new Xbox. Meanwhile, the PS2 released in 2000 and is still going strong today in 07. Even the PS1 lasted 6 years (being 94-00) not including post-ps2 launch life. Sony also claims that the PS3 is going to be a 10 year system. Personally, I think Sony is stretching it by saying 10 years...I give it 6-7 max like the PS2 before they'll bring out something new. I can't wait to see when the PS3 is still going strong and MS fanboys are forking out cash to get a new-gen Xbox that is still competing w/ the older PS3. Who bought the more expensive console then?
They have to release a new system sooner rather than later. It was so dumb of them to release a "next gen" with such a key peice of last gen technology, I.E. disc drive. I mean as awesome as gears of war was a gorgous game but man was it short. In all truth how many of those levels can you put on a dvd-9 disc. So right now even as it looks like 360 is doing ok, it cant last to long when games with looks and substnce i.e. a great and engaging long story will not longer fit on a disc. oh yeah changing disc mid-game is sooooo last gen, trust me. oh and the ps3 will be ok as it is pretty far ahead as in tech wise. blu-ray gives you the space. 1080p will be the norm in a little bit and will stay that way while the masses get these products. by the time the masses are ready for new and better technology, the ps3 would have done its job honorably .

Sorry, but what is Zephyr, is it the Lincoln Zephyr?The Zephyr is the codename for a new 360 model. It's release date and specs are still unknown, but it's speculated to come out this year (that's why the shipments for the first quarter were cut by Microsoft) and feature a bigger hard drive (120 gig), have a HDMI port, come in a different color and potentially have a HD-DVD drive built in.
