Hey all,

I just picked up Nier and I am about 5 hours into the game.. First off, I do agree with the game being good. The atmosphere in the game is spot on, and I do like the side-quests. As not mentioned in the review on GS, you can decline doing all the side-question mission, but they benefit you for money/exp. As for the characters, that is what I like about the game. They are different and full of life. This is the reason why I play games... and the story is descent, better than most games out there.

So I thought I would inform you's and let me know what you think...

Happy Gaming!

Cheers!

I'll definitely have to find time for this game sometime this year. Just too many other games pre-ordered or in the backlog already

lol that sux dude, I haven't seen or wanted any games for a while due to the lack of actual good RPG's, so I heard of Nier and wanted to try it out and I am glad I did.. I got it only for 9.99 at a blockbuster... definitely a deal! lol

Trust me the story gets WAY awesome once you hit the halfway point.;) The ending is so...fantastic.

And yeah that is one thing that annoyed me about most reviews I've read. Reviwers always complain about the sidequest when you can pretty much ignore and beat the game without a problem.:x

i agree, For me, it's just like Oblivion and what not, you can do the side-quests if you want, but I find the side-quests in Nier make more sense for their survival whereas, oblivion the side quests get away from the story.

Awesome for informing me about the story getting better, I am enjoying the story now!

I'll get it one of these days, but my backlog is two long games. Mass Effect 2 and Demons Souls.

Plus the banter between characters alone is worth doing the side quests.

lol very true! but the intro to the game when you are listening to the girl ringing out Weiss for being hypnotized is the best! I love hearing that intro!

In a sense it could get repetitive, but it depends how much you are into the game.. for me, it's not that bad, but for others, it could bother them.

I still need to play that game. I've had it for months. I might play it after I beat a few other games on my list.

It's an interesting game, I'll give it that, and one that actually got two playthroughs out of me. The music and the characters (ignoring most of what comes out of Emil's mouth) are what I enjoyed the most. The gameplay is pretty generic but never really becomes bothersome, although the level design, enemy design, and sidequests are nothing short of godawful. Not to mention the game's pacing, which is all over the place. The first half of the game takes forever to go by, and then when the story finally gets interesting, you're about five minutes from credits.

Hmmm, you know, I've always seen this game on the shelf at stores and disregarded it cause I never really looked much into it. Perhaps I'll give it a rent at least from Gamefly after seeing all this interesting feedback!

I am bout 7 hours into it, and I am doing all the side missions, which I am not bored of... I am finding the game really hard since I put it on hard, but the boss battles are awesome! Loving the game!

I really enjoyed myself and thought some reviews were harsh. I also enjoyed Risen which was not very well recieved (not sure if it is on PS3). One day I will beat Demon's Souls! I was about 80% through when my launch PS3 died a horrible death and I had to start again. I was gutted!

But yes dude, Nier was great fun.

its a great game it just gets realy annoying to get the true ending which requires you to finish every quest and get every weapon, not sure what square was thinking when putting that in there but the ending is amazing

No... Just no, no, no. At the beginning of the game you sit around for what feels like an eternity just mashing buttons until you gain 20 levels in that one area, then you move on to a back and forth fetch quest that lasts even longer. And for what? I decided I had better ways to spend my time. Easily one of the 10 worst games this gen, maybe ever.

If I remember correctly, it's not every quest you have to do, you just have to obtain every weapon. Most weapons can be bought, but a couple do require you do quests. I certainly didn't finish all the quest but I saw all endings.

So, when you finish off the game, are you able to get to all the boss battles afterwards to try and get the trophies for them? or do you have to restart from the beginning?

Yes.. finally some well deserved appreciation for this game..! it's highly underrated.. and some bad poorly done reviews have ruined its reputation.. Nier is a great game.. its strong element is the story.. the tears I've shed playing this game are far more than you imagine..

When you finish the game you restart from the beginning of part 2.. andfrom there you can beat again the majority of the bosses.. if you want all trophies you'll have to make another visit to part 1 by a new game.. Second playthrough is heartbreaking.. you'll eventually see why..

Glad you liked it. I myself, loved the game and the story. You absolutely HAVE to beat the game a second time to get the extra scenes. The only thing I hate about the game is the collecting side quests.

You start in the middle of the story after Kaine has been "frozen". I haven't played Nier in awhile but I believe it's right before you actually go after all the bosses. Those specific bosses that you're going to fight against will have a back story when you beat them a second time. Sorry, that's how I have to describe it without spoiling it.

Other way round for me, I thought the gameplay was mundane yet the story and characters saved it.

I'm on part two now. my game save says 20 hours so far. I did almost every single side quest in part one. They're really not that bad, and some of them are really great like the lighthouse lady story. I do plan on doing multiple playthroughs of this game. Its becoming one of my favorite JRPGs in ages.

What I've found is that if you're interested in a game, usually you'll enjoy it even if its not one of the best games.

I base my purchases on if the game seems like it would interest me rather than reviews, they're only good for judging if I should get games that I wasn't interested in.

Yah, I know how that is... Surprisngly enough, that was me for the God of War Series and the CoD series, I just couldn't get into them... But if you enjoy a good story and some outspoken characters than this is the game dude. Awesome voice acting throughtout the entire game.

Question for people who have playd through it... do I have to complete all the part one side-missions before the ending of part 1 because they do not re-appear in the second act?

Indeed the fishing quest is a pain in the ass at first. I think that was the first time it pissed me off.:P But as you complete the fishing sidequest you(the Father) get better and it becomes much easier.:D

Just wait til you have to harvest 10 of a specific flower for a quest and one super rare flower for a trophy.:P Talk about time consuming and frustrating if you don't look it up!

Yea I hated the fishing. The tutorial's useless and when you actually know how to fish, I believe there was some random factor for getting bigger/better fishes that irritated me. About your earlier question, I believe there are a few quest that carry over into part 2, like the fishing ones I believe. Most don't however. But it's been a while since I played so you'd be better off looking at an FAQ.

Best part is the sound. This game has one of the best soundtracks in the history of gaming. Probably the only videogame soundtrack to come close to Nobuo's work.

Best part is the sound. This game has one of the best soundtracks in the history of gaming. Probably the only videogame soundtrack to come close to Nobuo's work.Selushakai
I have to agree. I'm actually listening the the OST while reading this... Absolutely an amazing music score.

I agree about the soundtrack, its incredible, I cant remember what the castle is called, but its the first "level" that yo go to where you find the book.

The song they play inside that place is AMAZING.

Whenever I was in town, I'd always rock up to Devola and just stand there listening to her on the guitar for a while... one of my favourite tunes in the game.
