you can get a HDMI cable on amazon for like $2 and up and the sony PS3 component cables are $20. The reason it didn't come with HD cables is because as of april only 30% of households had a HDTV and a lot more people might be upset if they can't hook the system up right out of the box.
go to monoprice.com and grab hdmi cable for 15$ any HDMI cable will do get the cheepest ones cause all HDMI cables are the same so all way go cheeper for DVI and HDMI cables cause there digital make sure if your HDTV or monitor is HDCP Compliant
See thats where it puzzles me because even at launch xbox 360 had high def cables, and ps3 seems to take more advantage of high def content so it would just seem fitting to include the cable. Oh well i did get 5 free blu ray movies with it so im not too angry.

well the PS3 is a HD System so not every one has a HDTV with HDMI or Componet so they just put standard cables no biggie to me i bought a monoprice cable and i was set i dont know why every one freaks out about it act like its a big deal

What ever you do. Do NOT spend more than say, $29.00 for an HDMI cable. Try KMART or WALMART. They, have the cheapest for walk-in stores. Someone already told you about monoprice.com. That's the cheapest on-line. $7.00. I have one. It's good.
Well the big deal is that you paid 600 bucks plus tax and it doesnt come with a HD cable...They could have just shipped both component and composite cables like the other system. I was highly upset whenI purchased mine.

Next time before you make a major purchase like this one, make sure to do some research on what's in the box first. Or at least read the contents of the box when you buy it.
I'm in the same boat (so to speak) as the OP. I got a PS3 for my birthday and I knew that there would not be a HD cable inside it, though my question is does anyone use the highly rated "QED Qunex HDMI to HDMI Cable" and would they recommend it much more than the official sony one?

agreed. also, if you have a PS2 and you have component cables for that, you can use those.

Lol component video cables are half composite...you can hook the PS3 up to an SDTV with just the red yellow and white part of the RGB connector.
