thats a good thing because we dont have to give another 300 odd pounds on another console but its also a pain because now we have seen what the ps3 preforms like its not going to get any better so in 2014 they will have a console that projects real life graphics hopefully

This is where it at right now. I don't care about next gen. I want my games to still look like game. Games like Uncharted and Heavenly Sword have shown incredible motion capturing and facial expressions that are beyond any other. This is where it is at. I don't need images to project nothing.

Thats fine with me. The consoles we have, are not that old yet.

I don't really like patcher, he always seems to instigate people by making bold claims. I do kinda hope he's right this time though.

GOOD - right now, only a few games a year come out with that next gen look , like crysis ,gears, ut3, mgs4, MAG, uncharted 2, bioshock, etc. I probably forgot several...errr assisns, but the point is is that in 3 years all games will look like that, when that happens, the technology has been maxed and those that want to produce a next gen game will need a next gen console, hence 2012-2015. i'm really glad nothing will come out for a while, i love my xbox, ps3, and 50 inch tv plus home theater system, but a lot of money into it, wanna use it now

Well it would really suck if they came out this year or something, all the money Im spending on the PS3, I expect it to be alive for a long time. This doesnt mean the actual system though as that lasted me about 2 years only. Hopefully when the do release the PS4, they will make it so it wont die out on you and give you a yellow light for no fault of your own.

Nintendo follow 5-year console cycles and Sony follows 6-year console cycles. Just look at all their previous systems and when they were released.

That means, the next Nintendo will be out 2012 and PS4 will be out 2013.

Well since the world is suppose to end in 2012 why invest?

I'm glad, I just bought my ps3 6 months ago, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if they did come out with sooner.

All I needed to read was the headline of that article. It's just obvious and says it all right there.

I think people are too greedy, lazy and attention spans are too short that they already expect a new system. The three consoles aren't even old yet.

2013 seems like a reasonable time to release a new console because any sooner would be a bad idea since we won't know how the economy will be.

2013?? sounds good too me =). i spent lots of money on both the 360 and PS3 and i cant afford a new one right now(espically since it will be around $500 at release). So heres to four more years of enjoying great games folks!

Patch seems to be accuate with this one, yes in the past new consoles used to come out about every 5-6 years, now though things may change as the economy now is really bad and these companies need to be smart about bringin a new console, having these consoles active for another 3-4 years is fine, we get to enjoy the great games while they cook up amazing next gen consoles that will show a much bigger difference from what we are experiencing now.

Good. I don't look forward to forking out another $1000-2000 on a decent setup anytime soon although it likely won't matter since I'll probably be done "gaming" by then. It also wouldn't make a great deal of sense on Microsoft nor Sony's behalf to begin investing in upgraded technology for new consoles considering they likely haven't made the return they were looking for with these consoles (I think Sony "lost" a little more than a $1 billion on the PS3 so far?).xHBTNx

As long as they don't make the mistake of thinking they can use the Playstation brand as a launching platform for a new medium, resulting in an unacceptable launch price tag (from the overall consumer perspective), I see no reason Sony can't do a lot better next gen.

2013 is really too soon, HD TVs are far from widespread, in 2012-2013 it could be just beginning to have more than 50% adoption, around 80%adoption in 2015. Anyway if the 10 year thing is respected, XBOX720 will be 2015 and PS4 will be 2016 ...

aculty new consoles wont release until 2019! sony said ps3 will last 10 years what would be the next consoles graphics? what? i mean graphixs right now on these consoles 360 and ps3 are amazing cryengine3,uncharted1.2,killzone2.heavy rain, gears of war 2!! what ? releasing a new concoles just to make the texture and better res. on games lol!!killerwsyan

That's good for me. I'd rather enjoy my PS3 for many years instead of forking out a whole wod of cash just to get a new one in the next few years.

Sony said the PS2 would have 10 year life cycle. And it looks like it will! However you might have noticed a newer console came out long before then...

The point is a "10 year life cycle" doesn't equal 10 years until a successor.
