For me it did deserve the award, the best PS3 game that came out this year imo and it even let new gamers get interested in it and loved it ( of course there are some who didn't but that can happen to any game)

Yeah, but it wasn't that great.
I mean it was great, but not great to where I'd buy a PS3 just to play it.
The game is excellent and in my case, it was the decisive factor on getting a PS3 over a 360.madsnakehhh
Who's that in your avatar?
She's cute :3
I have to disagree with this comment... if you've been a fan of past MGS games, it is DEFINITELY reason enough to go out and buy a PS3. The game really is awesome. If you're a fan of action games at all and enjoy a good story in your games, then it is reason enough to go buy a PS3. If you don't like cutscenes, this game will not be a good reason to own a PS3... The action and gameplay is great (probably the best this gen actually), but it IS a VERY story driven game. With that said, MGS4 makes it into my top 5 games EVER made. It is the only perfect sequel I can remember ever playing... most of my favorites are original IP's.Yeah, but it wasn't that great.

It was easily the best game of this year. Gears 2 and Fable 2 didn't surpass their predecessors and Wii, like always, had nothing.hillelslovakYou really didn't think that Gears 2 and Fable 2 were better than their first installments?
Yeah, but it wasn't that great.

That goes without saying. There's no such thing, for any console. It takes more than one game to make anyone want to buy any console.I don't see how that takes away from MGS4 deserving GOTY or being a great game for that matter.
I don't think it should have been, MGS4 was just good story, good graphics, good voce acting, and good ol' sneaking/shooting(preference).
But, this formula has been done time and time again.
I think Game of the Year should be LittleBigPlanet. It was just so refreshing, it made me remenisce on the times i played Mario Bros. (Gunpei Yokoi).
No Resistance 2, No Fallout 3 and definetly No Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots could ever give me that feeling again, ever.
Exactly why its the best!!!

did you bother to read the rest of my post?
I was the only reason I bought a PS3 this year. Its a master piece and I am proud to own that game. By the way I am a proud owner of the 80GB Metal Gear bundle PS3. NEVER REGRETTED!!!For me it did deserve the award, the best PS3 game that came out this year imo and it even let new gamers get interested in it and loved it ( of course there are some who didn't but that can happen to any game)
Star650
Did you play the game? 'Cause this is the kind of ignorant comment that should be banished to System Wars. Saying that there were more cutscenes than gameplay is just wrong.Nope, i don't think it did. Because it was hardly a game, it was a movie. And i can't say it deserves movie of the year, either, because of The Dark Knight.

I think it did deserve to be Game of the Year.looking at other GotY nominees..yes MGS4 deserves it
so why is NHL 09 nominated but not Valkyria Chronicles or Dead Space?

so basically and according to what you're saying, the cutscenes are 15 hours long huh?? well I think that's a little too much for a game but I guess you're wrong so meh.
Splinter Cell > MGS. always has been, always will be. And no it doesnt deserve GOTY.Bauers-Twin
Definetly gameplay wise, but not story.

ah nice reasoning there, hmm i shouldn't have even wasted my time, with more people who are too stupid to understand simple things.[QUOTE="Bauers-Twin"]Splinter Cell > MGS. always has been, always will be. And no it doesnt deserve GOTY.samuraiguns

MGS's story is a joke. Splinter Cell is so much more realistic its great MGS is splinter cell dumbed down and overhyped.[QUOTE="samuraiguns"][QUOTE="Bauers-Twin"]Splinter Cell > MGS. always has been, always will be. And no it doesnt deserve GOTY.Bauers-Twin

Uh, you do release that MGS has been around a hell of a lot longer than SC and practically invented the entire stealth genre? How can MGS be SC dumbed down when SC is basically just an MGS copy cat?[QUOTE="samuraiguns"][QUOTE="Bauers-Twin"]Splinter Cell > MGS. always has been, always will be. MGS's story is a joke. Splinter Cell is so much more realistic its great MGS is splinter cell dumbed down and overhyped. This post is a joke. Its basically a troll post, just dumbed down and over-moronic. MGS has one of the greatest stories in the history of video games. But you actually have to have a reasonable amount of functioning brain matter to be able to follow it. I know its nowhere near the excellence of the c-grade spy flick story that Splinter Cell tries to weave with little to no success.... Also, how can MGS be a dumbed down version of Splinter Cell, when Splinter Cell wouldn't even exist without its influence?[QUOTE="Bauers-Twin"][QUOTE="samuraiguns"]MGS's story is a joke.
