I've noticed that there are a lot of games that don't offer a 2-player mode. What gives? I know online is where it's at these days, but I can't play a game with my wife online when she's next to me on the couch. Even racing games are doing this, and I think you should always have a split screen option with a racing title... I've got NASCAR 09 and Burnout Paradise... both are 1-player offline. I know the fighting games will always have 2-player modes, but what about the rest?

Are you talking about having 2 people on 1 system playing online? If so then I know what you are saying and it kind of sucks. The only game I've been able to do that with is Mario Kart Wii with my friend back before I got my PS3. But all my games that I have on PS3 of course don't offer that option. I think the only exception would be LBP, but that game is made for multiplayer.

There are a lot of games that they should have put that in. I think there would have been even better sales if KZ2 would have added it + splitscreen online.

It is a strategy to sell more systems. I guess it is because companies consider most gamers to be light fearing shut ins that don't have any kind of social life.

Seeing relatively new titles like the latest RE offer it, I don't think it will die. I would love to say the newestSW Battlefront will have it, but I don't know what, if anything, will come of that most awesome game.

As for racing, it can't even rememeber the last Nascar that allowed 2 player split screen in a tourneyment together. Most every other one that offered 2 players offline were just head to head, wich is weak. There is no reason all sport games should notallow 2 player split screen offline participation in all of the game modes. I guess it's either deadlines or lazy programming for those who don't implement it.

No, it doesn't. There's a party pack dlc where you can take turns playing.

split screen online...Eww no to that please if we want to play split screen you play offline with a buddy. Thats why they have Co-Op. But i do feel what the TC is saying devs dont focus on mutiplayer offline aspect of games these days. It apart of the evolution in the gaming industry.

Glad to see I'm not the only who feels this way. Just to clear this up... I don't want to play a two player game ONLINE...Don't get me wrong, I loves me some good online multiplayer... but,I want some two player action OFFLINE. Co-op is cool... I don't own anything that has it... but I'm more concerned about the lack of a "versus" mode in soooooo many games. What happened to good old fashion gaming competition at home with your peeps? There's even a lot of PSN titles that don't have it that totally should.

Splitscreen online means that you and your buddy will be playing splitscreen next to each other AND go online to play against other people. Ala Halo 3 and Warhawk.

I would like offline splitscreen also. Just a splitscreen against some bots would be nice. But there are a few games that offer this, and most of them aren't to great. Not really complaining though since I don't have many friends coming to the house, and the women sucks so much she is a liability.

bring back the days of golden eye!!!!

i believe the reason it isnt possible to make 4 player split screen is cause it forces the system to render 4 different screens
with the consoles currently being pushed so hard it isnt possible

THIS!! is the only complaint I have for the ps3, Friends arrive all the time at my place and we end up playing wii because out of my 22 games just 4 have some sort of offline mp, those being gh3, rock band 2, resistance 1 and motorstorm pr, Common Sony we gamers have real life friends who come to our places to do a little gaming!

Thanks for a great thread. I couldn't agree more that offline split-screen is a great feature. I would own KZ2 right now if it had split-screen. At least when Gorilla was asked about it they were honest enough to admit they didn't do it because its too much work. I thought the MW2 developer saying they aren't doing it because it "didn't fit the story" was about as lame a lie as I have heard in a while.

Just for the record, there are some good shooters out there that have it. RB6V2, GRAW2, Resistance 1 & 2, COD WAW (although they don't use the whole screen, but it works ok on my 73" tv). I'm sure there are more, but these are the ones I know.

One thing I don't really understand is games like COD4 that have split-screen adversarial or versus modes. How do you play a fair match when you can each see your opponents screen? I asked this on another thread and a guy wrote back that it only works if you're both drunk and you only use your knives. I still haven't tried that yet.
