OK i'm sure you've helped loads of people with this before so hopefully you won't mind helping me. OK before anybody says PPPoE it's not available to me so says my ISP. They gave me my PPPoE username and password but it doesn't work because it's not available for some reason. So any way I'm with a crap broadband company because I live in a rural area and it's the only broadband we can get that's not satellite. Now the speed is not the issue I just want to be able to play with friends. I tried putting the PS3 in a DMZ server and that didn't work. One day I took out the WAN cable from the router and stuck it in the PS3 and the speed was much better however I still couldn't connect to my friends. This makes no sense to me I was connected directly to the source of the internet and it still didn't work. I have one friend whom I can connect with because he has an open NAT type because he can use PPPoE. Anyway now I run the WAN into a switch and then have two wires going out from that. One to the PS3 and one to the router so I can get better speeds. Here's the main part, while at my girlfriends house, I changed her NAT type on the router from secured to open and hey presto I had my open connection so by any chance if I got her router and did the same thing with it, would that work for me? The router I use is a TP-Link something I don't have it at the moment so I don't have the exact model number. Or maybe there's another thing I can do with the TP-Link. Help much appreciated.

Ok with what you said if i understand correctly your set up sort of looks like this yeah. internet---->modem---->splitter---->ps3/router

your PPPoe user name and password is that put into your modems settings?

How is your Ps3 set up for the internet? Automatic, or Manually?

Now i got my open connection by portforwarding all the PSN ports in my router to the my playstations hardwired ip address, but to get portforwarding to work i had to port forward all the PSN ports to my routers ip address. Also with portforwarding you have to turn off UPnP off on your Modem/Router/PS3 for it to work properly

There is alot of mucking around when i was portforwarding a modem & router combo

Have a look at http://portforward.com/ very good site and the forum guys there are alot of help to.

Hope this sort of helps i know what its trying to get these things working right it sucks.

All the best
