Though there is no official word, I think we can expect the difficulty of Cell has something to do with it. Also probably they want to put more people on the streets, that was a big complaint from game journalists who've seen the recent private demo in action.

Lambo2468

yes there is an official word from T2

I doubt that GTA is pushing the PS3 to it's limits. I highly doub that, seeing how the system hasn't even been out for a year yet, and developers are still learning the system. It may be pushing the 360 to the limit, but i doubt the PS3. All I do have to say, is screw microsoft and there cheapness. If the 360 was truly a nex-gen system, than they would have used HD-DVD to support games on too. But no, they have to go and use a freakin' 9GB disk and hold games like this back. I'm so fed up with their BS. And why people like Microsoft is beyond me.

I think Sony made a huge mistake by putting a GeForce 7800 graphics card in the PS3. Even with the Cell processor, I don't see how PS3 graphics will be able to pass XBox 360 graphics. Sony should have waited and put the 768MB GeForce 8800 GTX Ultra card in the PS3. THEN, the PS3 would definitely be the king of graphics. I enjoy my PS3 more than my 360, I just wish they had put a much better graphics card in it. I also think that a better card would have swayed more developers towards the PS3.

Nowadays, I never know which version of a game to get. Most games are made on the 360 and ported to the PS3, which makes the PS3 versions crap. I guess from now on I'll just have to wait and read the reviews for cross platform games to see which is the better version.

The PS3 does have a better graphics card in it. The GeForce 7800 was the top of the line when it was released.

Umm NO the 7800 was not even close to being the top of the line card when the PS3 was released. That card is at least 3 or 4 generations old. The 360 has a modified version of the 2900 which is comparable to the 8800. Don't even try and debate which video card is better. The 360 wins that one hands down.

The 360's video card is much better. Allthough in time with the Cell processor I would expect the PS3 to pull of some pretty nifty stuff.

Another thing, the video's of GTA4 have been from the 360. I would speculate that they are having more difficulties with the PS3. But seriously who knows except Rockstar? And I highly doubt they will come forward and tell you what is the technical difficluty.

If anything, the 360 version would give them more problems, because of the lack of Blu-Ray.

This case has already been settled in the B3D forums, where confirmed developers already commented that they are pretty much equal. In any case, 360 games do not look better than ps3 games, and I'd even say the PS3 seems to have the upper hand lately. The proof is in the pudding, so leave your fanboyism and speculation to yourselves. You cannot deny that as far as consoles go, no game currently looks better than Drake's fortune. Comparable maybe, but not better. So just stop it okay? This is just flamebait anyway.

[quote="Michael Pachter"]"We think it is likely that the Rockstar team had difficulty in building an exceptionally complicated game for the PS3, and failed to recognise how far away from completion the game truly was until recently. We think it is also likely that Take-Two had a contractual commitment to Sony that it would not favour competitor Microsoft by launching the Xbox 360 version of GTA IV prior to launching the PS3 version, and believe that any delay of the PS3 version necessitated a delay of the Xbox 360 version."AuthenticM

Thoughts? I think this is complete rubbish.

Source: GamesIndustry

its actually the 360 sicne the core system doesnt come standard with a hard drive Rockstar cant cache the game to harddrives to make the loading times between cities dissapear. so now they have to figure out how they want to approach that problem sicne they want no load times what so ever.

Every major multi-platform game for PS3 has been delayed. Now you think the GTA delay is M$ fault? Keep in mind that Rockstar has exclusive content for GTA 4 for the 360 that is still on schedule.

umm no offense but the specs for the ps3's video card was never really made public.. also i heard that rockstar was having problems with the x360 due to the non-inclusion of a hard drive in the system itself..

and for the most part the ports have been bad due to developers not utilizing the ps3's potential.. ie ninja gaiden, resistance, rainbow six, and games in development are looking good so it isn't the ps3's capability in question it is the developers..

The video card is still most of the reason the ports don't have Anti Aliasing. Frankly the RSX is inferior to the Xenos, but fortunately developers with the time and ability can boost the power through the Cell like in Killzone where we have absurd amounts of advanced lighting and 4x AA running at the sametime thanks to the Cell. The RSX isn't the best but with Cell behind it the PS3 can surpass the 360 in visuals; it just takes time. The thing I'm more worried about is the lower amount of RAM on the PS3 compared to the 360. Carmack confirmed what I had suspected, but wasn't sure about for a while. Again though, I've heard that Sony is actively reducing the amount of RAM the OS requires.
