Okay, so I'm an avid PC gamer and have been for years. Up until Xmas '07, the last console I owned was a SNES, but I got my kids an Xbox 360 for that Xmas. It crapped out after six months(RROD) and I swore off consoles forever.

Then, last week, I saw video of Killzone 2 and was blown away. I saw a cam of gameplay footage, not even a direct vid, and was really astounded. I started thinking of getting a PS3 because of KZ2, but also have been thinking of getting a Blu-Ray player and figured that a PS3 would kill two birds with one stone.

Aside from KZ2, what are some reasons I should get a PS3? Can anyone convince me to take the leap? Thanks!

It honestly depends. I live in a college town, in a house with five of my friends. All of us have Xbox 360s, and two of them have PS3s. We have one of the PS3s in the living room on the big screen because Blu Rays are just way too awesome. However, the gaming side of it is hit and miss. Both of them had to buy high definition cables seperate. Not sure if that is just for the MGS4 editions or not (they are both the MGS4 bundle). Also, I have yet to see a multiplat, besides Oblivion, which is superior on PS3. Don't get me wrong, there is no drastic difference, but there is a slight difference. It is kind of a pain because it certainly costs more, but some games are just plain ugly after seeing it on our 360s. I will say that the PS3 exclusives we own can hold up with about any 360 excusive though. MGS4, for example, looks great. Online is something to think about as well. It may be that we all also have 360s, but the PS3 online is just something none of us have ever gotten into. Every multiplat online game for PS3 just seems to have a larger community on 360. Exclusives, like Resistance, are awesome though (even if it is a bit quiet).

Not sure if I will get modded for mentioning 360, but I just thought you would want an honest suggestion from someone who uses a PS3 often. My verdict: If you have the money, certainly get one. The exclusives are definitely worth it, but we all get more use out of the awesome Blu Ray player. It is a pretty, and quiet machine. Lets just say that after using both of the roommate's units extensivley that I will be purchasing one as well.

(I absolutely did not mean to troll. I had to mention the other console to explain some of my points!) 8)

Well since you're used to pc gaming the fact that you don't have to pay for online should be familiar. If you're getting a bluray player anyways you may as well get a ps3 since you'll be able to play games too. You can also stream music, pictures and video from your pc so it can be a multimedia hub. Hm and then there are the games. Most of the exclusive games on this system mean you will have to have a ps3 to play them. With 360 games about half of their "exclusives" end up on the pc too since microsoft knows it needs to cater to pc gamers as well. So if you bought a wii,ps3 and already have a pc you'll never miss out on any games. If your kids like to game there are alot of kid friendly psn games that you can enjoy together. Ultimately its your choice though. Try to research and watch gameplay vids and see if a ps3 is your cup of tea.

I don't think you were trolling. But maybe tc should have asked this in system wars or general gaming to get a more unbiased opinnion.

if you like realistic driving games.. gran turismo God of war would probably be the best hack and slash game Streetfighter 4 (on 360 aswell but better on the ps3 for controls ) unless its coming out on pc and you have like some controller for that. Since you got kids , maybe LittleBigPlanet (not saying its a kids game , just would probably suit them better if they are pretty young) BLu Ray player you want , + updated firmware which alot of those crappy blu ray players on the market wont have. + I read somewhere the ps3 blu ray player is like 1 of the best if not the best. I almost confident you wont get any hardware issues like the RROD. Ps3 has a lot of quality family games , buzz , Singstar , some playstation store games. + the almighty killzone 2 :P

Good point. Everyone in here will recommend you get one. As a regular user of both, however, I can honestly recommend one if you have the money for the system, cables, exclusives, and of course, Blu Ray movies and the TV good enough to appreciate them!

Sorry, but no.

Do your own research.
