I currently sold my XBOX 360 in my quest to get a PS3. I have finally reached my goal and set amount to get a PS3. Now, my question is I was a serious and avid online/xbox live gamer. Is the PSN as active as XBL? Do alot of people have headsets, can u just hop online and join a game quickly, do people communicate? My last question is i heard that once u turn your PS3 on (flip the switch in the back) that u should not turn it off or flip the switch but u should rather put it on stand by. Is there any truth to this or does it really matter?
No idea about how active PSN is, I'm a single player kind of guy myself. I had read that XBox Live was the most active online service.
As for the on/off switch question....I haven't touched mine since day 1. I'm too lazy to to get up and reach behind the PS3 to turn that off. I just use the controller to turn the unit off.
for me.. it doesn't matter if i flip the switch in the back.. i switch it when i know i won't be playing for awhile.. so i don't think it really matters :T online is great! for a free network there are alot of people online, a bunch of people have headsets. i'm not sure on how fast you want to "hop" or join quickly into a game but decently its fast imo and it should only get better once HOME is out :)
I'm not sure why you sold your 360 for a PS3 because you would have been a much happier gamer if you kept both of the awesome systems. The PS3's online system is decent, it does what it suppose to do, which is to play multiplayer games online. Do not expect the online service quality to be similiar to that of XBL because as we all know, PSN is a free service.
I wouldn't have sold the 360 for the ps3 or vice versa. Both systems are cool. Mind you, the ps3 games that I've played have pretty much blown the ones I've played for the 360 out of the water with perhaps the exception of bioshock, but they are both awesome systems. I am looking forward to what the 360 library will be, and looking forward to the ps3 library as well.
Well, for one, the online is great and you'll meet tons and tons of people with headsets and all that. The switch on the back of the PS3 should NOT be switched off every time you're done playing because it can short the system one day. Only switch it off when you won't be playing for a while, say like when going on a vacation. The console will not short if you only flip the switch once in a while but be sure that if you're ever unplugging it that you do flip it off. Just use your controller's PS button to turn off the system, as it is the proper way to do it. I got pissed off with XBOX 360 because I've lost 3 of them due to the 3 red dots already. I now own a 360 Elite and it's just sitting there being a proffesional dust collector(unless I clean it) because I'm too afraid it'll go 3 red dots on me too. So yeah, just don't flip that back switch too much or else you'll regret what's comin to you later on.
You're wasting energy by keeping the power button on :P. Yeah, it is basically on standby mode, and you can use your controller to turn it on/off. As for online gaming, it isn't as interactive and interesting as the Xbox live is, but it's still nice. The games for great multiplayer are currently COD4, UT3 and Rock Band. The online system is free, which is a fantastic benefit from Xbox live but don't expect a interface as enhanced as the Xbox live. Oh and for the communication, you can get some sort of headphone with a USB connecter at the end or even get a wireless bluetooth headset. You can recognize the headset using the settings inside the PS3 home interface, or even pair it up initially with a USB cable. Take it easy.
i like psn better, it seems to run smoother and less lag due to dedicated servers, pretty much pay 50 bucks on LIVE for a nicer interface which i can do without
Iwas just tired of my my 360. I have had atleast 7 of them (no exaggeration) over half of them RROD on me. So in my opinion it was just time to move on. Also they stopped selling warranties for Xbox 360's atleast around here they did,because of all the returns they were gettingand me as a consumer I do not feel comfortable sending my 360 to Seattle and not being able to play games for monthsalso some of my friends 360s were lost by Microsoft or in the process of getting there. So, i guess it's just time for a change.
