planet earth is on both hd-dvd and blu-ray - the series is spread over 4 discs. for anyone who wants to show off the quality of either the blu-ray/hd-dvd player or their tv, that show is by far and away the new benchmark in video quality - it's one of the best documentaries to ever hit television and easily the best cinematography you will ever see. i'd highly recommend getting it.

This is a good question. I mean which format will the BBC choose because of course they will stick with DVD for now but the time will come.

HD Resolutions take up alot of space. Blurays can only hold 3.5 (or 2.5 i forget) hours of HD quality video

They were released on both HD formats today for the same price.  I believe like the other poster said 4 disc sets for each.

That's strange..

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Planet-Earth-Complete-Collection-Blu-ray/dp/B000MRAAJM/ref=pd_ecc_rvi_2/026-0811993-1378803

Shows it as being on one bluray disc? Hmmm... maybe they decided to use a dual layer one or something...

However, http://www.amazon.co.uk/Planet-Earth-Complete-Collection-DVD/dp/B000MRAAJW/ref=sr_1_1/026-0811993-1378803?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1177454127&sr=1-1 For HD-DVD is does show the series as being over 4 discs...

The series is roughly 550 minutes.  No way that is gonna fit on one blu-ray disc.  Must be a typo.

Planet earth is already on blu-ray, in a 4 blu-ray box set. Each blu-ray is 25GB which I found to be very WTF considering they could of used just 2, 50GB blu-ray's... (I think they used 4 25GB discs to make more money, it cost's $100)

Planet Earth is simply incredible.  It was a must TIVO and I find myself watching it all the time.  Like nothing you have seen before and I dig documentaries.

linked Amazon has it for $67 shipped but they are sold out until may.  Frys may have it cheaper then the $100 retail too.
