I've owned a DS for several months now and while I'm impressed with some of the great games it has to offer, I'm dissapointed with its waves upon waves of god awful crap (with the occasional good game) as well as the pathetic 3d capabilities. I'd originally wanted to pick up a PSP when it was released back in march 2005, but ended up buying a slimline PS2 at the last minute instead.

Over these two years I was never really interested but that changed recently when I began to learn more about its capabilities and actually saw one for the first time in person. I love the idea of a real 16-32 player multiplayer experience. But I'm somewhat dissapointed, as with the DS, with the serious lack of quality software. Still, there are several games which look great to me. They are:

-Metal Gear Portable Ops

-Pursuit Force

-GTA 3 and GTA Vice City Stories

-The Warriors

-Burnout Dominator

-Burnout Legends

-Prince of Persia Rival Swords

-Medal of Honor: Heroes

-Twisted Metal Head On

-Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters

-Syphon Filter PSP (forget the title)

and several others

Overall I'm not too terrible worry about defects but I am somewhat concerned about battery life. I could keep multiple batteries, but realistically what is the battery life when playing games? It seems no one can give me a definitive answer on this (i.e., its always "well, if you're playing X under settings Y, minus the common dinominator divided by the sum of the square root of 30 minutes, subtracting 7 and the # of heat waves from room lighting and time of day......" its like WHAT THE HELL, CAN I JUST GET A STRAIGHT ANSWER?.....lol sorry about the rant

Anyways I was just wondering if, based on your experiences, you could recommend the PSP to me or not.

and P.S.

Is Medal of Honor Heroes worth getting? I know it got 7.3 but I'm not concerned that its incredibly short and has weak A.I., does the 30 or 32 player multiplayer really work in this game?

It's worth getting if you like the games for it, since the other features can be found in other dedicated devices and at greater memory storage. It'll be up to you if you'll maximize the other features of the PSP (which I do).

The battery life is around 2 or 3 hours give or take(Tekken DR).

Heh sorry to hear about your 360. I bought one in November '06 and no problems yet, and I'm loving it.

Yeah and the PSP was always a tough sell for me but I think I'm finally waining (right spelling?)

all good stuff but no MOH isn't worth it - especially since someone found an invincibility glitch.  I'd stay away from FPS in general on PSP but games like MGS and Syphon Filter are amazingly good.

Ok, I'm I the only one that get 4-5 hours?  I play my psp A LOT and only charge it every couple days.  I can play GTA for 4 hours for sure.  Games like lumines 5.

Metal Gear Solid: PO alone is enough to warrant the purchase of a PSP.

Oh I'm not too concerned about emulation and that sort of stuff. I've had plenty of it on many other systems, not to mention my pc. The video and photo capabilities intrigue me though.

But how is the the MP3 music playback on this thing with headphones? worth using over iPod or something? (which I don't own)

P.S.

Oh yeah, and also, does the core come with a battery charger or no. Does the battery recharge itself when plugged into the wall with AC?

psp is only worth it if you dont own an ipod or any other multi media device. as a game player its horrible for now. stick with your ds buy games like elite beat agents ( I'm addicted to that game) or some other unique game. i own alot of psp games all are in my opinion not that great. ( excluding socom and tekken.)

Get a PSP, it is totally worth it.

There are many great games coming out aswell as the great collection already available.

MOH: Heros is an alright game but there are many better alternatives out there.

As for the battery life, I usally get 2-3 hour playing games, however some games can stretch it out to 4-5.

Another thing you should consider is what else you will be doing with the PSP, if you are going to use it for movies and music it is also a good option.

Yes. IT is worth it. If you like Metal Gear, you should give MEtal Gear Acid a try. I mean a real try, not "Oh yuck. It's a card game. Screw that"

If you plan on getting a PSP then make sure you get a Memory Stick Pro Duo with at LEAST 2 GB of space. That way, you can store plenty of music, movies, games, pictures, demos, whatever...

I have a PS3, an Xbox 360, as well as a PSP. I spend most of my time gaming on the big boys, so I don't own many games, but I admit that Tekken Dark Ressurection, Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops, and Lumines are all really amazing games. These are games that put basically everything on the DS to shame. Plus, if you have custom firmware, you can play almost any NES, SNES, or Sega game. God of War is coming out for the PSP sometime this year. That is SUPER AWESOME! Finally, last but not least, Final Fantasy is coming out on the console. In due time I'm sure Square will release Final Fantasy VII, VIII, and IX for download. Just don't expect that anytime soon since they have bigger priorities; namely Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy XIII Versus, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, and Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions, to release first. I have a feeling that if Crisis Core sells really well, they might announce development for  FF: VII on PSP.

I f you have a PS3, Remote Play is really sweet. In time, it will only get better. Overall, the PSP is looking like it's going to have a very strong year.Â
