Playstation 3 enjoys record pre-orders in Europe

Advance orders for Sony's highly anticipated PlayStation 3 console have broken all records, with high street stalwart Woolworths revealing it has been taking one order every 20 seconds during the past week. The state-of-the-art PlayStation 3 will go head-to-head with Microsoft's Xbox 360 when it hits the shops on March 23 and Woolies, one of the first stores to accept pre-orders, has admitted it has been staggered by the demand. Gerry Berkley, Woolworths' head of games, said, "It's the hottest gaming system since the PS2 launched in 2000 - demand will outstrip supply." With a retail price of £425, the 60Gb PlayStation 3 costs £125 more in the UK than in the US, but this has failed to deter those determined to try out Sony's latest dream machine.

the comments about europe being sony land and playstation land really brought a smile to my face, im just glad to let all you in the US know that over here in the UK and around europe we will guarentee that the ps3 is a massive success, we recognise quality when we see it, leave it to us to put the ps3 in its rightful place on the top of the console pile once again, i can proudly say that today i put a deposit down on  my ps3 and in my opinion (and i think its obvious that most of europe will agree) the price isnt an issue at all.

the war doesnt start until march 23rd and its already won :D

You said it all. No offence but MS doesn't come nowhere near to Sony's hardware quality. 

Remember the first ones to own any system at launch are die hard gamers. That's a fact that has been proven over and over again. It remains to be seen what happens after the launch and the casual consumers decides what they want. cjnwo4life

7 days = 168 hours

168 hours = 10,080 minutes

10,080 minutes = 604,800 seconds

every 20 seconds a preorder is made

604,800/20 = 30,240 ( every 20 seconds out of the 604,800 seconds a preorder is made, so we use division. )

So far, in just the week stated, Woolsworth has 30,240 ps3 preorders!

i think i was like one of the first to preorder 2 console bundles in woolworths last year, now i hear they are getting the machines first.. good news for me.

1 with resistance, motorstorm.. and the other.. F1 and some other game, i can just take one back and change it if i dont like it tho

of course 1 is going on ebay lol :)

i hope the console is worth it, free online + some fun games will be well worth it.. Hopefully its lag free.. i have experienced some lag on my 360 even tho im on a 10mb cable connection

is there scoreboards for every game? does anyone know?, i know the service isnt as robust as MS's online but its free at least..

I like Europe alot. I am Polish, German and for some reason part Syrian (not in Europe but im just listing my heritage) mostly polish cause my mom was a immigrant from Poland. anyway do you guys really hate America all that much cause I really like Europe.KaptainKernal

I think we all knew it would be bigger here in the UK, Im glad mine's secured for 23rd, just need to get some flex-time in at work so I can take the Friday off for my delivery. Then straight down game to Pis5 my credit on games and a tidy hdmi cable. Christopper
