Have you ever tried to shut down your PS3 and then started your PS3 with the power button on the system itself but this while holding the button down for about 5 seconds. This opens the menu for the display option.

reset your screen resolution for your ps3. I'm not exactly sure how you do it (been a long time since I did it haha) but try following: 1) Turn your PS3, after you've turned it on push and hold down the same button until in 5-10 seconds. 2) Turn your PS3 manually, but while doing so, keep pushing down the turn button on the PS3 until it makes a noise. I think its called a "hard reset". It's something like I just wrote, but if it wont work, just google it since alot of people have had the same problem - including me.

KK so if its your first time hooking up an hdmi (which im assuming) you hold reset on the playstation itself (not the controller) it will beep as normal, keep holding for 5-10 secs longer it will beep again. (this will reset your audio/video) if that was your issue it will then prompt you to run in HD. If this does not help, plug your hdmi into hdmi port 2 not 1. for some reason i had a simular problem with the same tv and this worked. not really sure why. 42LG50 is what im using.hope this helps.

As everyone said before, you need to do a hard rest. Thats holding the power button down until it does a double beep. When that is done cut off the system from the back. Make sure in the options mode for HDMI you only pick the resolutions your television supports, otherwise it will kick it back to AV.

I hope that helps some.

is the reset button on the controller ?

No, the actual power button on the console itself. Hold that one down for 5+ seconds after the first beep.

Do you have the HDMI and composite cables (the red, white and yellow cables) plugged in at the same time? If so, unplug the composite cables. You only need the HDMI cable plugged in. When you turn on the system, it should automatically detect the HDMI cable.

From the PS3's standby state, rest your finger on the power button, thereby turning the PS3 on and a few seconds later, resetting the video options noted by a triple beep. The whole process is detailed in the PS3's Owner's Manual.

Coincidentally, my 22" LG monitor came today.

All I did was turn my PS3 completely off, so off at the back as well. Then I hooked up the HDMI, turned it on. And the Ps3 asked me if I wanted to use HDMI, I siad yes..then it asked if I wanted 1080p, I said yes, and that was it for me.

Anyways, turn your ps3 off at the back.

Put your finger on the stand-by button (on the console)

While your finger is still on it, flick the back switch and keep the reset button held down. That's what I do before i had HD when I had to switch back to my SD tv after being at a friend's house or w/e.
