Playstation 3 Online - Desperate Need Of HELP!

Okay, for nearly a year now i've tried to get online to play call of duty 4, i bought a ps3 first month it came out and i was rapped about online.My situation is that i'm using a Wired Modem (surfboard modem) and whenever i try to connect it using ethernet cable to ps3 it always says IP Address timed out and thats pretty much where i'm at.I've tried turning it off for 10+ minutes and turning it back on and nothing, the only thing that got me an IP Address was when i turned the modem off and tried while it was starting up, it got an IP but instantly it said no connection.I have a router but i've lost the disc and i think i made an error on something so i have to ignore that.Please, detailed help would make me sooooooo happy, you guys have no idea.If anyone has messenger or something i'd love to take step by step instruction, that would be bloody great! :DThanks for reading and i hope so badly i get a reply that helps, Joel.

sorry man i forgot you had posted that. ok i have one more thing to try, otherwise i have no idea, other than getting another USB ethernet thing that you said you had, and a wireless router (wireless g on craigslist for around $20-25) go to control panel and internet connection settings and somewhere in there click optain ip address automatically. this might be completely irrelevant but its worth as try

OMG everyone im closer than ever, i've plugged another ethernet cable into the laptop and opened up the router settings, i know i need to be in here for some reason, please help from here on peoples!

The linksys one is much simpler, they have an option called "Application & Gaming"

Me, im clueless :S

thats strange that you can get online with the laptop. you SHOULD be able to just unplug it from your laptop and into your ps3. if thats not working then its gotta be a problem with your ps3 settings

but maybe the auto settings are the reason its not connecting, why dont you call sony, tell them you cant connect using your broadband connection and ask them to walk you through the custom settings
