As of September 22nd 2016, 3 month and 1 year Playstation Plus membership are to rise in the US and Canada.

Sony revealed on the Playstation Blog that yearly and three month memberships are to rise to $59.99 USD/$69.99 CAD and $24.99 USD/$29.99 CAD (a 10 and 20 dollar increase)

Monthly subscriptions will also rise to $11.99 in Canada, but will remain at $9.99 in the US.

"This marks the first time that PS Plus membership prices will increase in the U.S. and Canada since the launch of the service in 2010. The new pricing reflects the current market conditions while enabling us to continue providing exceptional value to our members." reads Sony's statement

No further information has been given about pricing in the UK or Australia.

To avoid further charges, Sony recommends turning off you're auto-renewal in your account settings before September 22nd.

As of now, Amazon is currently selling the yearly plan at it's original price of $50 USD.

The fact that they are increasing the price of something that should be free to begin with, is worrying me about the future of playstation

I wouldn't say I defend it, but it's $10 up. No point in getting upset over it.

Sony: "People are disliking playstation plus and are unsubscribing, what should we do?"

Marketing Guy: "Increase the price"

Sony: "GENIUS!!!!"

The only way this is okay is if the value of the games improve to how they used to be (at least, also no getting rid of ps3/vita either, getting rid of ps3 or vita individually should be enough to boost it back to what it used to be)

I still won't get it, but at least it wouldn't be retarded.

But yeah, since they didn't release the news with news that it'd improve the quality of the game, that is almost assuringly not what they are doing, they probably noticed people were cancelling it so they are trying to gouge more money out of the fanboys.

10 dollars more on a product people were already complaining about.

Lol, yes, we are obligated to free games and additional discounts. I'm sure you're just referring to the ability to play online in which case I'll give you a break.

Anyway, not sure how they expect people to respond if they're not even going to try to promise to make any improvements to the service. Personally, I don't think it's a big deal. I already think PS+ is a great value and I haven't even paid the full $50 for at least the last 2 years I've used it since you can oftentimes find cards/codes for about $40 online. That said I'll still probably be able to find them for around $50 once the price increase takes place.

@mcpanties: And you are the reason gamers sound like a bunch of whiny, entitled pieces of shit. Go troll somewhere else. I should have recognized your username from that abortion of a topic you made on here.

So i am entitled for wanting something that should be free, to be free? You do realize that people like you are the reason they pulled this paywall for multiplayer right? Sony knows they can bend you over and you won't mind.

@mcpanties: You're acting is if playing online is the only PS+ benefit. If you even bothered reading my post you should be able to deduce that I don't completely support PS+ being a requirement to play online. Sure, it would be great if online was free. But like I said, I find great value in PS+ because of the deeper discounts and monthly games. And you're entitled if you think those things should also be free.

I'm not even going to blame sony anymore. You're literally telling them that you don't mind paying for something thats free on the PC and should be free.

The discount value you are talking about is something called steam sales on the PC and its much better.

Take away the discounts and online play and there's still the monthly games, a point I've made that you've ignored 3 times now. That's where I find most of the value but I'm sure you're just going to repeat the same bullshit. How about you just stick to PC since you obviously don't see any value in PS+. Do that and **** off from this Forum because you obviously don't need to be here.

Because there is no value in it at all. Everything that you get on ps store, you get on steam on a much better version. The ''free'' monthly games you get are some crappy indie titles that no one cares about.

you're such a delusional sony pony that doesn't mind bending over for sony.

@mcpanties: Yes, Sony is up my ass because I happen to find value in PS+. I'm not defending the price jump or that online is included as a part of Plus. Go to somewhere you belong and jerk off some likeminded PCMR asshats.

I'm definitely not getting it again. I thought most of the games were weak, and the only reason i had gotten it was to play online with friends. I didn't even want to renew last year, but i forgot to take the automatic renew of my PS3, i had only taken it off my PS4. Why even bring up the price ? Pisses me off already to have to pay when it was free a while back. We shouldn't have to pay to play with friends, screw the free games.

It's never too late to go into building a great PC with benefits and most of all, free online.

Can we all agree that this console generation IS NOT AS GOOD AS last-gen?

Oh boy, a PC ? I don't think i can afford that. That cost way more then a console. Also the VR stuff will cost more, and i only have one friend that is on pc gaming. I will stick to having to add $10 dollars if i wanted to play online with friends. I rarely do that now.

Was not thrilled at this announcement like anyone else. But then it hit me that PS plus has been the same price since 2010. Almost 7 years, while everything else during that time has gone up *cough* Amazon Prime *cough*. Still won't be easy to come up with that money in my current financial situation.

Didn't also take long for the PC argument to slip in. Even though PC gamers sold out to Valve a long time ago. And gaved Valve dominance of the PC market when Valve partner up with companies to force PC gamers buying retail copies of PC games to use Steamworks. Effectively killing the PC retail market and creating a monopoly where every PC digital store has to sell steamworks codes instead of their own for a variety of titles.

Hopefully the extra money Sony will be getting will be used for servers and other features.

Hope the PS Plus games are a lot better with this increase in price

Well they added 2 step verification, that's at least a step in the right direction. I don't have any problem with the price increase, but I feel they could have handled it better.

Announced 2 step first, show off a great Sept PS+ lineup, then announce the increase in price. Everything was done backwards and only hurt them in the end.
