I recently purchased a PS3 (2 days ago).

I was excited to get it home and hooked up to my big hdtv. I purchased the HDMI cable to get the best picture and then encounted a big problem.

I came home to hook it up. Plugged the PS3 into the power outlet, the light came on. I plugged the hdmi cable into the ps3, but when i tried to connect the hdmi cable to the tv side, it sparked when the cable touched the hd outlet on the tv. It was so hot that it melted the metal part of the hdmi cable to a point where it would no longer fit in the outlet.

Mad that i would not be able to hook my ps3 up to HD, i got ready to hook it up with the A/V cables that come with the system. This time i unplugged my ps3 for fear that it would spark again. I plugged the AV cables into my tv, and when i pluged the power cord into the outlet all my power in my appt went out. I went and flipped the switch in my breaker box, and tried again..the same thing happened. Extrememly mad, i took my ps3 to another outlet. When i plug it in, the light will not turn on, and i cannot get my ps3 to power up.

I was so happy about finally getting on and now this....please has anyone heard of this happening or know what i can do to fix this??

also...i purchased my ps3 out of town..we hooked it up at a buddies place and it worked fine. We played it for 2 days and then i bring it home to hook it up and cords start sparking and it wont turn on. Im confused!!

Just return it to where you got it from. Bring it back with the receipt minus the sparking story and you should be good.

Just try another PS3. Return the one you currently have.

In that case it seems your PS3 was destroyed by your very house, you may want to call in an electrician, because of this your PS3's warrenty may now be void...

that sounds retarded because a video output on a device has very low voltage its mainly frequencys so it shouild be impossible to spark unless its ur tv and also u might want to check the ground on your house, which is under the power box in the wall, but i still se no way of it sparking

Possibly, but i have an Xbox, and when i plug it into the same electrical outlet, and the plug the AV cords it, it works. I thought it was something to do with my electrical or the TV also until i i plugged in my old xbox and it worked fine.

Do you really think my warranty will be void now? I purchased it from walmart..will i need to call into sony and get it repaired through them or should i be able to just take it back to walmart becuase i purchased it recently.

Replace it asap. Rule of thumb, don't connect things when they're on. Connect all the cables and the neccessities when the system is off. That way, you won't run into weird surges and electrical issues while the system is on.

Just bring it back to Walmart with the box and receipt. Just tell them it wont turn on. Dont go through the whole I probably screwed it up myself story. You should be able to return it within at least 14 days there no problems.

You need to call an electrician. If it works at a friends house then its not the ps3's fault, its your wireing.

It worked at a friends house prior to him bringing it home and frying it. He needs to return it, get a new one and yeah probably call a electrician. Get a surge strip at least.
