I just bought a PSP 3000 at the store and came home to connect it to the wireless and it won't work. I am typing all the info. in correctly and everything but it keeps saying connection "timed out"!? I mean WTF!? Every other wireless device in my house connects just fine and with no problems, but I bring this home and I'm having the hardest time. Has anyone else had this problem and if so what can I do? I have contacted Sny and my internet provider and both can't do a thing about it.

I have all the info keyed in and i am standing right next to the dang router and hit test connection, and I am getting a message about 30 sec later that says, "a connection error has occurred. the connection to the access point timed out." I mean wtf does that mean? I have everything typed in correctly.

You put capitals where there should be, and all that stuff? ... wireless hotspot would appear as a choice where it says Scan and the other options. connection timed out. Well it cant be the PSP, and if your other systems are able to connect to your router, would make no sense why the PSP is not. Alright well lets see here, go on your PS3 and try to connect. Sign into PSN if you have or go on the Internet browser to at least see if it works. But first, reconnect your PS3 by scanning for your connection again and typing in the same passport you used just to see if it still works. If it wont connect again, you know theres a problem, if it does connect, then will need to look into the PSP more. Also, is the WLAN switch located ontop of your PSP switched over to the right?

Yes the WLAN button is all the way to the right. I reconnected the PS3 and it worked like a charm. I can't figure it out for the life of me. I tried to take the psp back to gamestop earlier and told them that I was having wireless issues and needed to swap it out with another one. But they were able to connect to the starbucks network next door and told me it wasn't the psp and sent me right back out the door. I have tried typing in everything down to the DNS addresses and I'm still getting nothin.

I have seen this with the older PSP system also. You have security on your wireless connection, don't you? It really is the PSP. OR at least the PSP version. Try downloading the latest patch onto the memory stick through your computer (you may have to get an SD card converter in order to do that) and update. If there is still a connection issue, you could always remove the security on your wireless connection as a last resort (not recommended).

Alright so we know it DOES connect, and that it cant be your router because your PS3 can connect to it, and the PSP and PS3 both connect the same way. So lets see here. Under WLAN settings, it says : Scan / Enter Manually / Automatic / Use Wireless Hotspot You click scan, click YOUR SSID, make sure you click right twice after and then type in your password key if your router is secured, and if it isnt and it says NONE, just keep clicking right without changing anything and then test connection. And if it is secured, type in password and then keep clicking right directional button until you save settings. Then test connection.

Yea I have tried that a million times and I am getting the same message. I have a WEP key and have typed it in through the pain in the a$$ key system they have on this thing. I have even tried taking off the WEP protection in the router settings and it said i needed to check the security settings. I also tried the keycode thing you sent me a mail about. Where would I type the keycode in as: it wouldn't be a WEP b/c it has letters in it, so would it be a WPA of some sort. Since my router is set for WEP pass protect then anything else wouldn't register.

I'm just saying that's exactly what I did to fix it with the same problem (although my PSP is much older than a 3000 model).

this may be a whole separate issue but i am trying to connect to remote play between my ps3 and psp. there is a whole different security setting for that. instead of connecting to the wireless router it suggests that you go through the ps3. the is SSID is now called PS3-1622060 and WPA protected with some 20 some odd digit code that I can't figure out how to access. the digits are displayed as ************************** and I can't see the figures. This might be a different issue or they could be correlated, so if you don't think they are related then completely ignore this post.

Sounds like a different issue, I dont see any info on connecting your PSP online through the PS3. You can access some stuff on your PS3 through Remote Play tho. Incase you wanted to know more ---> http://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/ps3/current/remoteplay/remoteinternet.html

Other pointers : - Make sure your using Security Key#1 for ur wep - Check your WEP key and your SSID and make sure that they match your internet connection exactly - THIS MIGHT BE IT! ---- ***** Your WIFI router is probably still set in G mode. Your PSP uses the IEEE802.11b protocol that's only 11Mbps. Go to the settings menu of your router and set in in mixed mode B & G this way your PSP can connect on a slower speed and your laptop could be using the higher 54Mbps speed. ****

Hey, I have the OG PSP but had the same issue. I also have a 2Wire and couldn't connect everything at the same time (PSP/DS/Wii/360) but now it's all good. There was something wrong with the router... never really found out what it was, but bought another 2wire from ebay or something and now it works like a charm.... you may wanna change your settings from Shared/Open and vice versa... if it's shared, try open. If the other stuff works, congrats! Just wanted to let you know that you ain't crazy cuz that happened to me too!

Wow that's good to know! I have tried changing it from WEP - open to WEP - shared and it didn't do anything. So you say I have a defective router thats keeping me from having multiple wireless devices connected?

well, not sure, but that's what happened with me.... of course AT&T said that nothing was wrong, and i guess thattechnically nothing was really wrong because I was able to get online and connect thru wi-fi, BUT not all things could at the sametime. they weren't much help... i think i paid maybe $25 for another router and it works like a charm =)
