Wouldn't it be funny if sony gave all the new users a crappy single dorm room for thier apartment as a default. With one bed, a small closet.

....or they could just stuff all new users in a neighborhood of run-down crack houses.

Either way, it would provide a really strong incentive for people to actually buy those luxury apartments.

BTW, some of those apartments are really nice. Depending on what the default user gets, I would actually pay some real money for those ($3-5). Would any of you guys actually pay real money to buy those apartments? If so, how much?

im not a person that really cares if i spend a dollar here or there for mundane things that other's would think i was crazy or stupid to purchase. as long as im happy thats all that matters.

so with that said ill most likey (and hopen) to purchase a trenchcoat for my toon. just to make me happy.

I'd be willing to pay maybe up to $10, but that would really depend on what the benefits would be. More space is nice...but necessary? No. Heck, the apartment itself isn't altogether necessary. But I'm still interested to find out how all of this will end up.

This is a digital world. I'm sure its stunning as its all virtual anyways.

At most I'd pay 1-5 dollars sounds reasonable, maybe even up to 10 dollars but, thats gotta one hell of a nice home. I mean it's a one time thing and other then items the HOME has no monthly charges.

Nothing as although the concept is very clever and will most likely appeal to the whole Sim audience for me it has no appeal whatsoever. Little big planet impressed me far more as a gamer it is all about the games for me.

the only way i'd pay more than $10 is if the place was a mansion and my friends could all live there and stuff, that'd be sweet, other than that tho...i'm really cheap...and i'd prolly make my friends chip in and pay for it too

Yeah really don't know how much I would pay that depends on the benefits it give. This news on this whole thing is some of the best I have heard in awhile for the PS3. PS3 still has the brightest future I believe of all the consoles but with this it really brings them over the top.

Turn it around.

If Sony lets you "create content" but it turns out that it takes 20 minutes to make a nice couch using some editor...

Then what? Would you not mind paying someone else $1 for a couch rather than spending 20 minutes?

I think they would, it'll probably some insanely high price to purchase or the choice of monthly rent. This way they make more money and the value of their virtual realty don't deflate.

Or Sony could lose millions if Sony develops the reputation of nickeling and diming people. Come on, charging rent for virtual property? Sony's more interested in getting people to buy Blu-ray discs...and you don't get people to buy BR discs buy charging rent on virtual property. That's for sure. Who knows, they may charge rent. But I would be shocked if they did. (and Sony would disappoint me if they did).

You know why MMORPGs make release so few Ultimate weapons and gear, it's to keep the people coming back. There's a game in China where some dude killed some other dude just for this so called 1 in a million Dragon Sword. Don't underestimate virtual properties, people are willing to pay for anything thats rare real of virtual. Plus charging ppl for expensive Mansions in HOME has nothing to do with BluRay sales, I'd still buy BluRays even if I lived in a shack in HOME. What I think will happen is Sony will have limited number of mansions and luxury homes that can either be won buy playing a lot of games and earning alot of points or purchased at some ludicrous price. Or rented. If you can get a mansion for 10 dollars then everyone would live in one and it doesn't help Sony one bit.

I'm really not a fan of microtransactions at all. I'll have to want something really bad in order to pay to download it lol, and the only stuff I'll ever really want are usable items, not just cosmetic things.

I want to live in a ruddy ass ghetto house. I hope they have those. A place where bums pass out after freebasing crack for weeks, underage women get drunk and then proceed to strip, every virtual drug on the marketplace is peddled, and black market weapon upgrades for Resistance are sold bargain priced.

And then I want to just have the nicest tvs, and furniture, gadgets, toys, and unecessary items, you know like a real crackhouse.

Honestly, after seeing the 'basic' apartment that's totally fine with me. I don't have a ps3 yet, but when I do, I will most likely be a casual user (have to be, busy schedule) so i'll almost definitely stick with the 'basic'.

But if you're part of a pretty big clan then, to me, its a no brainer the clan would have a 'luxury' apt. (provided its not to expensive, $20 or less; but with a clan you can just split up the cost).

I expect a lot of clans to have black wallpaper, neon lighting....just weird sh*t. (provided Sony give users such flexibility, which i expect them to do). But whatever, its totally virtual, so its really not that important.

Besides, it would be boring if everyone's pad looked like a yuppie/millionaire pad.

I would think in some cases, if you're apart of a well made clan, you'd want a nice place for you and your clan mates to chill. And the more clan mates you have, the more room you'll need for meetings, after victory partys, etc. Should be interesting to see how this whole thing takes off.

just to add to my last post, I just remembered that they showed the t.v. and you can play things from HDD. So you could play a video of your last clan match or clan recruiting video.

Um nothing. Its gotta be one of the stupidest ideas ive ever heard. Im sorry but you know what that says to me? Thats Sonys way of ACTUALLY charging for a service. I understand that it costs money to offer certain services, but dont try to patronize me into thinking that you are being nice to me giving me a "free service" and then charging for soemthing else that is seemingly unrelated. That is like offering a kid candy so he can go to the dentist. How about they offer all the cool communications features on home for FREE....and if they want to throw in some cheezy home motiff, then make that FREE too. I wouldnt be caught dead actually spending REAL money to doll up a FAKE house. If my friends wanna talk to me, they gotta go ghetto, thats all i gotta say.

I don't really see a logical point in "buying" a fictional polygon chair and so on. I wouldn't pay a thing. I'll be a homeless guy for all I care. I just don't see a point in wasting money in some virtual home when it's not even real, or you really have nothing at all to gain from it.

I mean really, who's going to pay for a TV or a table in a virtual world?

Is this Sony's way of "charging" for their online service? I mean, what else would we have to pay for besides the "home" our virtual sims live in? The possibilities are endless. I think it's going to be exciting, but I want to hear more about how much this service will cost--hidden fees and such.
