but fifa 08 offers a masterpiece of an AI system, and pro evo is the same gameplay as before.

sure pro evo has been the better game in the past, but on videos ive seen this time around, pro evo looks pretty poor in comparison.

but, im buying both anyway :)

I was a fifa player a long time until a buddy introduced me to PES. Since then i have never looked at FIFA. When you can run through the whole defence of the opponent with one player (even on World Class mode) then you know something is wrong. In PES it ain't that easy.

Its just feels like a more natural game of football (Soccer). You build up play from the back and gradually work your way up the field fighting for every header, timing your tackles perfectly, playing an inch perfect pass and if your lucky scoring a goal you actually feel like you earnt.

Rather than getting a fast defender to run the full length of the pitch and punting it in the goal like FIFA...boring

Christopper

I agree. PES feels more like a real football game than FIFA. If only PES have all the official stuff FIFA has then I don;t have to get both. :P

With regards to the Official stuff, you can pretty much guarentee there are going to be some game saves floating around the internet with all that on.

indeed. If you are buying FIFA for the official stuff, then just wait for someone to put out a game save for PES with all that stuff on it.

more of a football game?

hmm, has nobody read about the new AI system, the link above is IGN's insights on it.

it will make the realism of football much better than pro evo, fifa will no longer be a 'run through all the players and score' kinda game, especially not with this new AI system.

pro evo 2008 will be just the same gameplay as before, but with better textures.

i do usually think pro evo is better, but looking at these next gen versions, i really cant see fifa 08 being beaten (not until fifa 09 comes out :) )

EA has been promising better AI like forever. Though they still haven't managed to achieve that goal, so i'll waiting for reviews on FIFA 08.

True but FIFA always does well with player animations and player likenesses, so I guess there is more to the official stuff FIFA can offer. Also, FIFA always comes on earlier than PES and always have something new to offer. So I guess I can trade it in for PES if I really doesn't like it. :P

This years fifa is offering the Be A Pro mode which I think is really interesting since I think is a real progress rather than a gimmick.

Konami is much better then EA. EA puts out way to many games that are either just not original at all, or just seems that there was no effort made to make a great game. EA is the king of making just ok games. In there deffense though they have been picking it up.

The new animations and shotstick in nhl 07 are awesome. Madden 08 is a really nex gen football experience. And fifa has always been good, but not as good as PES. If EA pulls up there socks with original ideas and unique controls, they could make really good games.

Oh and they need to get rid of the EA HD GAMING screen when you boot up a game. That is so dumb. Like WOW! EA IS AMAZING THEY GOT HD WOW D:OSGJKA!

yea that Be a Pro mode is something i have been wanting the game to have for years now. I hope FIFA 09 / PES 09 will have full 11 vs 11 online play :) when they achieve that then the game is complete :)

yeah EA is all talk they never deliver ever they have proven that over the years. same gamplay with better textures that sounds like the fifa franchise more so then PES. to me fifa is one of the most unrealistic futball games i've ever played personally.

i think i know where your coming from when i made the switch i was a bit thrown off to just cause playing fifa for so long just really disorients you its like playing pintail and then going to futball, it takes some getting usedto

graphically they are equal this time around in my opinion

well anyhow regardless of what futball game you get i hope you have fun.

im getting both :)

im usually the pro evo fan-boi, but my comments are towards fifa 08 because it just looks like a massive improvement, and looks better than pro evo this time around.

obviously we will need some reviews etc, but fifa is definatly shaping up better than pro evo for the next gen.

obviously they need to deliver, but if what they promise is true, fifa is going to be amazing, and its nice to see these 60fps games now. (FINALLY!)

The same was with me. I used to play FIFA 07, then a friend lended me WE 4 and the game was so much better that FIFA had nothing to rival it. I even tried FIFA 07. Ultra crap I can tell you that even PES 6 is better than FIFA 07. FIFA 07 has so many issues that unless you are an ****** that does not know football (soccer), you would consider it good.

For the ultimate football experience you can only go with WE/PES

i dont understand some comments in this thread,

has PES's gameplay changed in the past years aswell, i own them all and them all have the same gameplay with improved graphics.

i know some people dont like the old fifas, but dont judge a new game on past ones.

fifa08 has been revolutionized, and if this new AI really does work .... PES2008 will be owned, as they have not included much for the new release other than new textures.

hey chris sorry i mean most people on this forum will always prefer PES to FIFA. kind of sucks to be outnumbered but hey you could be right but the thing is alot of people have trusted EA to deliver and they have pretty much always disappointed to thats why alot of people are sceptical.

plus what most people luv about PES isn't just the AI. Also EA bought all the license they aren't really giving anyone else a fair chance to compete with them because they don't to change much of anythign at all.

be honest i think Fifa could totally beat out PES if the team that makes it wasn't working for EA.

anyways don't feel bad in the end it just comes down to personal preference so its not like one is better then the other, just people on the forum tend to have a preference to PES for their futball needs.

Ok lets clear this up in more detail...

A few years ago EA Sports decided to make its biggest investment in its history when they decided to build an engine from scratch for next-gen consoles and would fully ultilise the power of the multi-threaded, multi-processor CPUs for gameplay to better simulate real football. The new gameplay engine uses 35 times more processing power then the CG gameplay engine.

FIFA 07 on Xbox 360 was the first version of the new game engine and you saw an innovation where the ball was now separated from the animation with independent ball physics. EA have taken the context and depth in AI and the sense of the player 'brain' working to a much higher fidelity than it has ever done before with each CPU brain making thousands of evaluations and choices per second.

FIFA 08 will also have a new feature called Online Leagues which allows groups of up to 32 friends to create their own league how they want.

So all you Pro Evo Fans will just have to except that FIFA 08 will have a far more advance game engine, AI, ball physics and player animation, which will make the game more realistic and overall a better game. The online play is also a nice feature. For once EA have put some time and effort into a game.

Hope this clears everything up.

Its hard to explain what makes Pro Evo more enjoyable to play than fifa but ye never no bout dis year but if pro evo had de licensin an the player name and lots of licensed balls, boots and a like a lot of GOOD legends like pele ,cruyff, maradona, jarzinho and stuff it would be AMAZING but for now pro evo only win on the gameplay

FIFA = slower, more real tight football (hence can be tiresome) PES = Highlights reel of the action

if i want my central defenders to think theyr ronaldinho, picking the ball up twisting and turning up the pitch then unleashing from 30 yrds into the top corner like rio ferdinand on steriods (he thinks hes a player) then i'll buy fifa. if i want a football game thats vastly superior in every way (except graphics) then im gonna choose pes. pes is just better, i know it, the people who play both know, the review sites/mags know even the people at EA who try to think of ways to catch up every year know it. only people who think its too hard to score compared to fifa and people who just want the shining graphics and all the obscure teams in the world (which, lets face it your not gonna use anyway) seem to think theres any competition between the two.

PES2008 is the beautiful game. FIFA08 is just another footie game.

Playing both FIFA08 and PES2008 equally on the 360, albeit demo's only. Konami have clearly raised the bar again over their counterparts EA!

EA not surprisingly have over promised and under delivered this season - not for the first time. Talk of faster flowing football and vastly improved AI has been stunted by cumbersome controls and very poor response times. EA have seemed to have gone from all arcade action, goals galore to, you're lucky if you get a sniff on goal - utter bore!! That said, EA's presentation is very nice and slick, the graphics are great and the licencing is typically head and shoulders above Konami's efforts.. The Ronnie 'Free Roam' whilst waiting for load up screen is very cool and nurses the wait. Nonetheless, we do not buy these games for the kits and graphics... Nore do we buy games for their sodding presentation! We buy games with our hard earned metal because we want to be entertained not bored and frustrated!!! ..FIFA08 i'm affraid to say frankly does not cut the mustard!!

Early indications suggest Konami's efforts this season have well and truely payed off. After a shocking production last season with the lust less PES06, this seasons edition - PES2008 really is next gen. The action is fast, crisp, exciting, very responsive and tougher than ever. - The AI is outstanding; well controlled, balanced and very very clever! Continue to reproduce the same attacking move over again, the opposing AI will soon adapt to your system, forcing you to change your tactics and methods. The AI movement off the ball is fantastic too! Players run into channels, shrug off their markers, drift into space and create space...
On the down side; the presentation still leaves a lot to be desired - it reminds me a little of Gran Turismo on PS2. The replays still suffer framerate issues, and the graphics aren't quite as detailed as FIFA's - but still a big improvement on last seasons!

I have given both demo's a good, solid, fair hearing... Konami have produced a more complete football gaming experience, that sadly EA can only sit and admire from the stands! .. perhaps next season EA!!

Casual gamers have always liked FIFA because it's such an easier game to play. PES on the other hand is more like a simulation football game. You need to think, think, think, think and think !! It's like Gran Turismo of football if you will.

PES used to be better, but then Fifa caught up to it and is now surpassing it. Fifa 08 will be better than PES.
