What's my motivation to spend actual money on virtual chairs and clothes and stuff. I thought that maybe u used your gamerscore or something to "purchase" the stuff (kind of like The Sims: you use virtual money to buy virtual things).

Because sadly there are people out there willing to pay for it to make their houses better for their virtual girlfriends.

EDIT: Nvm didnt read your post properly.
gamerscore is for the 360... on the PSN we have "levels"... how can you spend levels on an item? It's not a rip-off seeing as you did NOT have to pay for HOME, and you thus have a choice in paying for clothing and other items in the virtual world.. do I spend money in home? Sure do, but it's money that I have left over from things on the PS store. So what is the GamerScore good for?
SnarfShady2001
PS Home is a waste of time period. I just don't get the fascination. I rather spend my time playing actual games.
It's more so for people that, maybe have friends in real life.. but on days when they are off maybe the friends are working and they arn't really in the mood to play a game and just want to chat with people.. I use it quite often because the 2 days that I have off, all of my friends are working, so I never get to hang out with them.PS Home is a waste of time period. I just don't get the fascination. Because while Home itself is free, all it is is a desperate ploy by Sony to Nickel and Dime the consumer to death ... and all for virtual items.

I'm glad someone other than the usual people, have common sense around here. I've been saying the same thing long before Home was even released and members of this forum were so stupid that they actually "defended" against my criticism of buying something that isn't useful or real. Even tried to legitimize it.
The motto of a lot of things lately is "pay for nothing" which many people still don't understand. Which is a bit of a concern if companies continue to exploit the stupid and leave the rest of us in the cold.
so again how is it a rip off when you haven't spent anything to get Home nor do you have to buy anything in it? A ripoff is when you pay for something and you could have gotten said items for free.hiryu3
A question that could stand against that would be "Why isn't it free in the first place?" Especially if it's just a "Second Life rip off" chat room.
Home is free, don't buy things if you don't want them. Simple.Rippou
It's not really that simple or black and white. People can also ask "why does it exist in the first place?". In reference to my previous comment about "pay for nothing" and companies exploiting it.

Buyer Beware. Not the companies fault.I cant beleave how people complain about evrything. even when its FREE. you do not have to buy anything on home if you dont want to. The way i see it, were getting a cool feature on our ps3's to fool around with, it has FREE mini games like pool bowling ect as well as a pretty cool adventure called iirc Xu or Xi. And as i see it, any thing you CHOOSE to buy in home is just like donating money. Just like with free web comics and free programs for PC's like anti spyware ect. What's my motivation to spend actual money on virtual chairs and clothes and stuff. Buyer Beware. Not the companies fault. What happens when a lot of companies adopt this "motto"? Would you be saying the same if it's all you came across while they sacrifice everything else to go down this "cheaper route"? Being passive gets you no where.

The only thing I care about is when companies charge for things that directly impact a games features (see Resident Evil 5 multiplayer). That's when it's unacceptable. Not over stupid furniture and clothing in Home. :lol:the clothing is optional, its for people with the extra dollar or so after there wallet was used up, using what they can't on psn to get something they think is cool. people buy things...therefore its a good idea.
calling a free community a ripoff is nonsense.

One is required if you want to enjoy what should have been on the disk in the first place. The other is a purely optional decision made by the consumer in a free program. Looking at the features of Home, if they charged just to use the service, then I'd say it's a ripoff. You make the decision to purchase things that don't affect your experience. The devs of RE5 decided to keep something integral to modern gaming off the disc and charge for it. Ripoff.[QUOTE="Denji"][QUOTE="Rippou"] The only thing I care about is when companies charge for things that directly impact a games features (see Resident Evil 5 multiplayer). I'm just moreless implying "why" when it comes to this topic of buying "nothing".
But I would think this thing with "buying nothing" has something to do with the aspect of "they're spending money on nothing anyways. Why not do this too and take advantage of the same people?" Like a "domino effect". That's what I'm basing my arguement off of.

They're not taking advantage of people if they're not forcing them to buy nothing. Like I said, buyer beware. Sony will take the money just like any other company would. If the market's there, why not? I don't agree with it, no, I like free things. But they can do it and it is totally up to the consumer. As for a domino effect, it's a smart business model with no backlash to the company. I wouldn't be surprised if it showed up a lot more. I wouldn't support it though. Be happy while all of this is still optional.not everyone is tight with their money.. people do work and can afford to blow money on anything worthless...campzorEXACTLY

I've never accessed Home before, when I tried it told me that I had to be eighteen.

It's filled with pathetic DBags trying to virtually "hit on" female avatars anyways.
ya, I've heard that its a waste of time and I'm not missing out on much.

Yeah, a waste of time is exactly what it is. It kinda makes you wonder how many of them female avatars are really guys also lol.I agree. Its free and you have a choice to pay for extra stuff, how is it a ripoff? Some of the outfits are 5.00 and thats pretty high imo, but then again, its technically like a DLC you pay for with other games right? Its no more/less useful than an add-on to a game. Its just fun right? Maybe thats the same thing to those who buy the outfits: its fun to them. How can something that's free be a ripoff?:?

Have you ever noticed those empty spaces where you can't see anybody at all? Those are girls, and there are a LOT of them.Virtual furniture has to be the biggest waste of money ever. Who wants to pay like $3 for a crappy table which just sits there. I too think it should be based on how good you are, for example trophies give you money, it's quite unfair how the ones with good houses and clothes (even if they are virtual) are spoilt rich kids, whereas the best gamers probably don't have anything which makes them stand out from the crowd.

I think this type of complaining is exactly what we don't need.
It's something a lot of developers put a lot of time and effort into to provide you PS3 owners with an original way to chat and socialize with your current friends and to meet new ones.
It has free mini-games like bowling, pool, arcades and puzzles like the Xi thing.
It allows developers to make spaces to show off extra features and promote the qualities of their games.
What is the point in whining about it here?
Has it honestly caused you pain and suffering?
C'mon kids.
Overall:
It's not a ripoff if some people are enjoying it and have fun with it.
If you don't have fun, then don't play it and please don't whine about it.
