I dont know why people are complanning about not having ps2 compatabilty... i bet everyone who bought a ps3 has a ps2? why is everyone complanning about ps2 bc? i thought more people would be complanning about the fact this is a cheaper verison and its not fair for the people who bought the 60gb ps3... kier1992
Yeah I thought so too, I thought everyone would be complaing that they got ripped off in having to pay $599 when this new one will be $399 but I guess people have better things to cry about. Even the guy above me said he will be buying this new model to play PS3 games, not PS2 games. Some customers and new PS3 owners aren't going to even be thinking about PS2 games but how they can get online to verse the rest of us with the new PS3 games.

Yes I do care about what happens but no one even thinks about that Sony may be making a PS2 emulator as they produce the 40 GB Sku and eventually will implement it into the PS3 via a Firmware update like they did for the PS1 emu. You can still play Playstation one games on the PS3 still. Eventually a PS2 emulator will come and be added to the PS3's 40 GB SKU. A bigger question though is why did we even buy a PS3 if we aren't even going to play PS3 games? I bought it for playing PS3 games, not to just have it to play only PS2 games.

The problem is, the PS3 has MANY problems. None of which is backwards compatibility. The two overlining problems is price and games. The price is too high, and the games aren't impressive yet. If you drop the price but then remove the PS backwards compatibility, what's left to do with your PS3? Watch a blu-ray movie? Play 4 PS3 game?

Until they address both issues, which is dropping the price without dropping features, and making the same quality of games that are fun as PS1 and PS2 games got, they'd be set.

If they were Nintendo, they wouldn't have this problem, but considering Sony almost entirely relies on third party support, and third parties don't give a damn about the PS3 right now ... they're screwed and they're gonna remain screwed for a long while.

Um....I care....

I support the PS3 100%, but im not sure I can just...forget the 50+ ps2 games ive collected over the years. Also considering the new ps2 games are $50 when I bought them....do the math. It's 2,500 dollars; not something i can just 'forget' about.

SO yeah, I want a ps3.....no...I will not sacrifice backwards compatability.

GIJames248

I agree, especially after Sony made fun of MS over the sames thing and talked about how important it is. But it is really funny to watch all of the Sony fanboys brush it off after ridiculing MS for only offering partial backwards compatibility, which is better than Sony who just ditched it entirely.

I care about backwards compatability as well...that's why I own the 60Gb version...the new 40Gb version will have backwards compatability as well...the only difference is that not all games will be able to work properly using the software emulation...

because i cant play both ps1, ps2, and p3 games? i have to choose 1?

i bought my ps3 to play all playstation games, not just ps3 games.

sony also chose a poor choice of words with "no backwards compatibility" i have yet to see a statement fromo sony saying the 40 gig will use the emulator.

For now people are gonna care for backwards compatability, b/c the PS3 is just a baby. When the real games come out, they wouldnt go back playing PS2 titles unless they didnt beat it or for nostaligic purposes. The 360's backwards compatibility is poor and you have to buy old games again for the Wii. As time goes on and games get released, BC is going to be pretty irrelevant.

Aahh, I see what your saying! Why hasn't anyone brought that up, the 40 GB may be using the emulator and Sony isn't even saying yes or no on that. Very interesting, thanks for the thought, maybe more people should talk about that....

yeah so basically summing up those last 7 pages of posts: the 40gig is aimed at people who might have never owned a ps2 therefore dont care about it, or are more interested in playing ps3 games on the net against other ps3 people

regarding the 40gig: trying to say that wats it matter if it cant play it? its cheaper, if u want to play ps2 games then sell ur ps2 and use the extra money to get a 60 or 80 gig.

personally my *** ps3 cant play any of my aust ps2 games most of which are "real" ones anyway, but like was already said: most ps2 games justlook plaincrappy after uve played like resistance or gt: hd

Well besides all that, most people dont realize that Sony is doing this cuz of all the complaints on price. I think if you want quality spend the extra 100 or so and get it. If not and your that cheap, then buy the 40gb and keep your existing ps2 hooked up.

I personally wouldnt buy something half done. I want the best of all worlds. You people dont realize the power and media strength this PS3 has. It can do alot more than the 360 in fact, its almost as good as having a 3000 dollar gaming pc!

and u can turn it into a pc with linux haha. realistically the 40 gig ps3 is just as good as the 60gig i mean i dont use my card reader, it stillhas wifi and the hdd is replaceable so u can jsut buy the 40 and use the money u save for games and a bigger hdd. the 40 is still "almost as good as a 3000$ gaming pc" as u say
