There is no official conformation for PS3 to have backwards compatibility with PS2. Maybe one day it will happen maybe not.
You could get older 60GB but rest assured, they are very expensive.
My advice? Keep your PS2 and if you want PS3 - get the Slim Holiday Bundles.
Save money. ;)
If you want a compatible one, Buy one this instant. A 60gb. Or you will just end up paying 400 for one because they are getting very rare.
if u dont have a ps2. i would get one. theyre cheap now and i heard sony plans to stop producing them after 2010.
Its possible to fully emulate PS2 games by with a software emulation via PSN firmware update. However, I think its a smart move by Sony not to release the patch right now since PS2 is still selling on the market both in Japan and worldwide.
I belive that the original ps3's released in the USA had all of the Ps2 hardware built in.
I have a 60gb from the European release which I belive contained one chip from the Ps2 and some extra software for emulation. My Ps3 plays some Ps2 games but not all of them. After that they removed compatability completely. I belive it would definitely be possible to emulate the Ps2 with software though. I guess sony have higher priorities
There were rumors going around a while ago saying that Sony would release a firmware update that would allow backwards compatability...
But that was like 2 years ago... And I'm pretty sure Sony directly squashed that rumor mid to late last year.
Unfortunately for you guys without B/C, this is true. Let's all hope they were lying. :PThere were rumors going around a while ago saying that Sony would release a firmware update that would allow backwards compatability...
