I would agree that the ps2 is hurting the ps3, I thought the same thing, add the npd sales of ps2 and ps3, and those numbers would be great. The ps1 and ps2 sold together well, but I don't think its a good idea for them now. There was not as big of a competitor as the 360 back then, what did they have the dreamcast to compete with? It sucks for the guys that have a ps2 and looking for new content, but I don't get why people would even buy a ps2 now, I know they have a huge library and great games, but people should know that support is going to dramatically drop off, and they are buying older hardware? I just don't see the reasoning, yeah, its a lot cheaper, but that 100 or so bucks for the system and some games could be put toward the ps3, where most of the support is going to be, and especially in the next year. I think sony needs to do something with there sales, I know in the system wars forum its all over the place that the sales are lackluster for the ps3, while I wouldn't necessarily care if the system didn't finish first, but it needs to catch up or else we will lose even more exclusives, and nobody will care that the ps3 is a superior system because nobody wants to take the time and money required to make a game to fully utilize the system, when they can make a cheaper game multiplatform, and cash in on the 10 or so million owners of the 360.
