I don't like the fact of leaving in-game music up to devs because some of them may not use it and previous titles won't have this function, if all devs did this I wouldn't mind but im not sure they all will, I just wish Sony would've copied M$ on the in-game music thing it would've been better imo.

In-game screenshots is very, very cool. I'm happy they are finally allowing music to be played while in game. Playing Oblivion will be far more enjoyable (as much as I enjoy the score, something fresh for a change is nice). Also, the memory reductions will definitely help out.

I take back my statement on the music thing, yet hopefully more devs will allow this. The in-game music would be a plus though.

Memory Reductions! And they say Sony is expected to tighten them even further in the future SDK 2.0. That is personally my biggest concern - I want the ram in the developers hands, not tied up on the PS3 OS. Granted not all of the PS3 features need to be active. For example, in a Single-player game there's not reason for having a friends list up - that right there saves 16Mb.

The ingame photo function is awesome however - and it only weight in at 3Mb! I hope we see lots of developers either patching this in, or at least using it in the future.

NCAA 08 has a system for file uploads but it uploads to easportsworld.com not your PS3.

Someone above said that they don't like how in-game music is being left up to devs. I think once the memory required to run the xmb is reduced you will be able to access your music to play over games while devs have the option of custom soundtracks streaming your music to replace ingame music. Best of both worlds.

1.80 SDK came out a few weeks ago ... ofcourse firmware 1.80 came out to user alot earlair then that ...

The SDK is tools for the devlopers -- what this means is that devlopers now have more RAM to work with, more features they can implement by simply clicking a few buttons ( since SONY builds them into PS3's OS ... ) ...

Whats really cool is the shrinking RAM needed to run PS3's main friends list ... down 8mb -- SONY only need to bring it down by another 8 - 12mb and then more games should use that feature ...

Devs is short for developers and im not sure what SDK means but the update isnt avaliable just yet its for developers. If we had it now, it would be useless because no games ATM would support it.

yeah, the fact that in-game-music is up to devs is a huge disappointment.

It's not that hard to get this right; give the users freedom. Simple as that.

We have had this since firmware 1.80 ...

The SDK is the devlopers tools. Basically SONY updates our PS3's - then they update thier 1st party devlopment tools - then they realease a SDK to ALL devlopers.
Now the devlopers benefit from the new SDK's having more accurate specs. and more featurews. For example - in SDK 1.60 devlopers are have to but up with 84mb (52mb XDR, 32mb GDDR3) of resevered RAM. Our PS3's though have only reserved 72mb (48mb XDR, 24 GDDR3) since formare 1.80 came out. Now the devlopers can use the extra 12mb SONY has given them.

Also in SDK 1.60 features took up alot of RAM -- SONY has reduced the RAM this features use now ...

In the end -- new SDK's result in better games for us :-) in the future though :/

In game music is not big of a deal. If you need to hear music that bad while playing then rock you ipod or zune.

SDK= Software Developer's Kit. Maybe someone should change the title so folks don't get confused. :) The tools sound great, though I'd have liked to hear more about the graphic toolset and how that's been improved. Still, more memory means larger textures or larger models (usually not both) so that is awesome in and of itself!

I disagree, in game music is a vital part in games, and having a customizable soundtrack really is a bonus.

Cool, I think this is going to spice up competition between gamers as to who can do better due to the screenshots, and now the PS3 as well as the 360 can have peoples own music in game. This is very good.

now we just need to sit back and see which developers will actually use these features now that they're more accessible.

well i'm happy to see all these additions. in game screen shots will be real fun, using the psp as an extension is something i've been waiting for for a while. it could really open up some nice possibilities. in game music would make a nice addition, but i do agree that same games probably don't need it as it might over shadow intended atmospheric in game music. sports games should all have it. smaller network games should have it. grand theft auto 4 should have it as one radio station. still good to hear its almost here.
