PS3 & Wi-Fi

Hi, I'm looking to get a new broadband package, and was just wondering how fast the Wifi on the PS3 is. I want a fast package, but do not want to waist money paying for speed that isn't being used! (the PS3 is the fastest thing on my network) Can the console handle Virgin's 20mb fibre optic cable broadband, or does it top out at 8mb?
