Hey quick question, does the PS3 need a specific HDMI cable (such as a PlayStation branded one) or is it compatible with any cable?

any and all, check monoprice.com for like a $10 cable

All HDMI cables are about the same, the only difference is some use a different size wire inside. The cheap ones work just as good as the expensive ones.
