And on another note, I don't know why people say PS3 is overpriced, I always thought it was a steal, and guess what it is.  Sure if you look at the PS3 as a gaming only system and compare it with previous gens, sure it look slike it.

However Sony must be doing something right cause 360 elite is coming out.

I have had two xbox 360 units go red ring of death on me. Still have a third 360, yet love how quite the operation of the station 3 is versus the wind machine operation ofxbox 360jmckenz3

isn't this bad news for sony cause their opposition can make consoles 500 bucks less than they do and still make profit off games and xboc live and crap liek that? this also means no price drop for a while.... sounds like bad news to me :Sjunk56

First paragraph or so:

EVERY MANUFACTURER will see that increase with te products they put in it.

For example the 360 elite Cost $475 (only added a 120hdd and hdmi wifi?) almost the same cost as a 20gb (though discont. PS3)

However the 20gb PS3 still has the BD player. Seems to me that Sony is cost effective. Check out the PSU it costs slightly more but guess what? It's internal.

I believe that breakdown is just a copy of the one that was done in November when the PS3 was launched.  ISupply did a similar comparison in November 2006, and their total manufacturing price is the same as the article you posted.  so I don't think that chart is up-to-date.

Microsoft's gaming division is losing more than $250 million a quarter.  While that is not all because of the 360, a good part of it is.  so Microsoft isn't making a profit off of the 360 yet.
