I doubt they will look into it too much, what do you mean they scan the serial number into the receipt? I'm just returning another ps3 in the box all taped up to make it a pain in the ass to even bother looking for anything on it.

When you buy a PS3, they usually scan the barcode for the price then scan the serial number. You'll notice that the serial number appears on your receipt. If they don't bother checking, Then you should be fine.I doubt they will look into it too much, what do you mean they scan the serial number into the receipt? The serial number is on the box too. When I bought my PS3 I had returned it the next day because my wife ending up buying one for me as a gift. The box was still closed with the seal still in tact and they broke the seal pulled out the PS3 and checked if the Serial Number matched on the BOX, the PS3 and the RECEIPT.I dunno when I bought my ps3 they didnt open the box or anything they just scan the bar code and stare at the clock lol.

I just got a 80 gb ps3 and hopefully mines doesnt die, where would you get those 3 warranty years?mine craped out on me like 5 months ago... thats why when you buy your system you buy the extended 3 year warranty, and you get a brand new unit! also i think ps2 BC is over rated... i would much rather have a brand new 80 gig than a used refurb 60 gig. if BC means so much to people i dont understand why they just dont spend $99 and get a new ps2 that is actually meant to play the format and doesnt look so grainy

to the original poster of this, i feel you if true. My original 60GB died after only 14 months. I was dealing with other more serious life issues and just couldn't deal with paying another $150, i cursed Sony tech support, they had a rep call me back but i had gotten so angry i traded it off for $92 bucks at Gamestop. Later i knew i had to get another to play Fumito Ueda's next masterpiece so i traded off my PSP+games, a bunch of PS2 games and my old dead PS2 plus all my PS3 games. I lost a bunch of money but got enough credit to get a new 80GB model.
If i could go back i'd just pay the $150, because i lost well over $2000 on the deal. I learned my lesson, never buy an entertainment device for $600 without and extended warranty. I would only do this for a system like the PS3 though, never a Wii60.
In the end i got mad because i didn't want to end of spending $750 plus tax on a game console after the repair fee, but i lost so much overall by getting angry.
here's my suggestion, i hear of a lot of people doing this. find out how much broken ps3's go for on Ebay, sell it, and spend a couple more bucks for a new 40G ps3 with a longer warranty
TCreturning the unit to wallmart will most likely not work. as others have siad they scan the system and box's code. Iv seen them do it when iv returned things like that. and it does not matterhow much you wrap it up. they will open it. years ago that would work but wall mart has cought on to that little trick. But good luck to you eather way.
I agree that something as pricy as a ps3 should come with at least a 3 year warrenty. If they build a reliable system they should have no prob standing behind it. but the fact is most companies build things just as cheap and sorry as they think they can get away with. Its that way with a LOT of things. and its prob only going to get worse. i remember back when you bought a truck, as long as you took care of it it would dang near last forever lol. now you pay 30 grand for one and its almost disposable lol. Ah the 50's and 60's they sure knew how to build cars back then .... o sorry OT lol
Home electronics failures/breakdowns are never, ever EVER caused by user error. NEVER!!! It's ALWAYS poorly designed.
And I call in today to find out they want me to pay 150$ for a refurbished system yet only give me a 90 day warranty. I've been a loyal customer to sony since ps1 and I'm pretty sure this is the end of me playing their system. I spent $600 for it and it died in two years why the hell would i spend 150$ more for 90 days of warranty? I'm PISSED to say the least. Pretty beat if you ask me, xbox may have actually been the better choice because if i pay 150 i will have spent a total of 750 on the system alone. I can't believe they can make a system that cant last 2 years and expect the customer to foot the bill when it **** the bed. Good luck with your playstations guys, either way I'm filing complaints with the BBB.Ishot2PAC
haha one of my friends bought a 360 and it died in 3 months. haha dont get a 360......and dont get an aneurism either, just get over it, this has happened to my ps2 and look I got over it.
To ishot2pac,
I used to work as a costumer service rep at a call center to put myself through school. When you call the costumer surport number, you are not speaking with a sony employee, but rather a person who puts up with a**holes all day for $8 an hour. No matter what type of manager you speak with, they will all tell you the same thing for the simple fact that if they did not, then the company that owns that call center could lose their partnership with sony.
Now that i've finished school, I work as an electronic repair tech. and have worked on numerous ps3, 360, and wii consoles that were out of warranty. the ps3 is the one I get least and when I do it is usually because of dust build up or burnt out cooling fans. The reason the fans go out is becuase people leave there systems on for extremely long periods of time, and over the coarse of a couple of years, that results in the fans starting to burn out. Dust is alot more serious than people think it is. If dust gets on the lens of the blueray player, you will begin to get disk read errors. If to much dust collects on the hard drive, you start geting corruted data errors and hard drive falures. If enough dust accumulates, low amounts of static can form from the dust swirling around the fans, and if that happens your whole system is fried. static + electronics = heart ache.
If your ps3 had a factory defect it would not have lasted two years.
Pay the $150 to get it refurbished and take better care of it next time. That means letting it rest after every 1-2 hours of play time and keeping it clean of dust. Just like a PC, you need to completely cleen out the dust once a month while keeping it wiped down in between time ( that includes using a low power vacume on the air vents aswell )
I know your extremely angry but just remember how much fun you have had with it. If you sold it not only would you lose $$$ on the sale, but in a few months when you are no longer angry, you would miss your PS3 and probably buy another one for full retail price. If I was you is just forget about it for like 2 weeks and then call them and shell out the $150 to get another one. By then you will have time to cool down. I know your upset and you have every right to be, but life is not fair and sometimes you have to bite the bullet.
[QUOTE="KapG"]Hey emitsu, when a supervisor won't give you their last name. Something is a tad fishy IMOemitsu97
Would you give your full name to someone who had access to the internet, a search engine, and was massively annoyed with you?
Doesn't rich have the OP's full name? It's only fair lol. Rich actually more than likely knows the OP's full name, address, birthday, pets name, mother's maiden name, city he was born in, etc... lolMine was 2 years and 2 days old before it died...I start to think that Sony is intentually bricking peoples sytems in order to make more money, its unbelievable that my 600.00 60GB didn't even last two years; if you pay 600.00 for something it should last for at least for ten years.
