[QUOTE="Ivan5"]blue-ray disks arent only for movies, they are also used for games

they better need it otherwise they just ripped me off for nothing!!! (they honestly dont need it for games not that much is even used on the disks but it is great for movies!!!!!!!!!)lions_rock_2008
yes, Blue Ray needs to win this war because Blue Ray is used on PS3, if Blue Ray lost, there wont be Blue Ray burners and applications for Blue Ray that hackers can exploit. Pirate is on the way, the way I see pirate is a good thing for Sony, not bad thing. Look at PS2 and PS1, because people can buy cheap or make CD and DVD games. As the same time they support the increase in size of PS community.Good thing? Yes, they buy the consoles...but they're stealing games. The increase of pirates on the PS3 will only discourage developers away, more pirates = less profit. With the high budgets needed to make games these days, developers have very little to risk. Although third party hacks are cool for emulators (such as old school roms), stealing an actual game will just push third party away from Ps3. Its going to happen inevitably, but don't give them more credit than they deserves, in fact..dont PRAISE them. Pirating killed third party support on the PSP (among other reasons).
Sorry for grammars and fragments.

doesnt need blu ray? probably
but that also means we didnt need cassetes when we had 8track
or DVDs when we had VHS
or vista when we had Xp
or houses when we had caves
its the nature of technology, if we didnt need new tech we'd still be living in caves hunting deer with wooden spears
its called progression

to bad too many people are too stubborn to aceppt this simple truth.
They said that the PS 1 didn't need a CD player.
They said that the PS2 didn't need a DVD player.
Now they're saying that the PS3 doesn't need a Blu-ray player. They can kiss-off.
My 2 cents.
Even if Blu-Ray loses, it's still a great game system media, and it holds alot of information. So I can play my games without it having the processor decoding stuff on the fly.Too late it already won.....
There are still many HD movie currently available right now.
i guess people are misinterpeting what I'm saying.
I'm saying BD is a great gaming media, so it doesn't need to win a HD format war for it to be useful on the PS3.
Any thoughts?

who brought this topic back from the dead? lol
yes the games are on BDs
however when I started i asked if it needs to succeed as a movie format since it does games perfectly
the answer is no if the BD format loses PS3 will still succeed.
However now that we know BD is gonna do well there is no need.
Someone brought my topic back from a deep slumber or something
(this happened in Jan when there was a trillion XBOTs saying if BD loses then so does PS3)
i believe that some ported 360 games could be put on dvds to play on ps3 as ps3 versions are the same as the 360 dvd versions, it could save us some retail tag value. first party ps3 games im sure need blu ray, devs can chuck in all thier ideas without squeashing some out leaving more content, larger multiplayer lvs, clearer uncompressed fmvs and audio, behind the scenes, bonus mini games, LOTS OF EXTRAS!
ps3 can live without bluray, but on most of it like first party games and future games, its going to give us much more
plus i love having a next gen system and then a next gen movie player included for about 1/3 the price - its bliss.

I didn't bother reading this thread, and I'm sure someone else has mentioned this, but Sony implimented Bluray with the PS3 for bigger reasons than gaming capability. Sony knew the PS3 would sell regardless of price. By including a Bluray player in every PS3 they automatically have a huge share in the HD disc market. We've already seen the early results of this with Blockbuster's recent announcement that they'd be supporting the Bluray format exclusively. The HD DVD format wasn't selling while the Bluray was. Bluray sales are rising while HD DVD sales are stagnant. Sony's gamble has already paid off... even if the PS3 somehow goes the way of the Dreamcast, they now have a solid foothold in the next gen market and a very good chance at making Bluray the next major VHS/DVD type media format.

If they're seeing a boost in sales and are making enough, they may be able to lower the price of the discs. Winning the war will change many things in the long run.
