Hi!

My beloved ps3 fat is making some noises. I've tried to identify the source and found out that it was the disc drive, since ps1 games and castle crashers were both fine.

Going on with the task, I also found out that the noises only happen in big actions scenes, like in MW2, for instance. It runs smoothly in loading and non-action stuff, but when I start shooting and running, the niose begins.

It's not constant, but intermittent and will cease if actions stops.

Is that normal?

Should I worry?

Disc drive failure?

Thanks!

I wouldnt worry about it.. just back up your saves incase you do need to replace console. My fat ps3 disc drive seems to hate Yakuza 3. makes some odd noises, worried me at first but ive had no problems with it at all

Since you hear the noise in big action areas and don't hear it in loading screens ( where the drive spin the fastest ) i'm 90% sure it's the CPU or GPU overheating and the fan going crazy ( the one in the inside not in the back ) try and download a demanding ( graphically ) game demo and see if you can still hear the noises

Alright, gonna try that. Is wipeout hd good enough for graphically demanding?

I've downloaded black ops and there was no noise at all. It has to be the disc drive. Now is there a way to fix it? Can't even imagine how much a replacement must cost.

Hear this out guys: That's the noise. http://www.4shared.com/audio/_y9I1D-r/Mmo.html I've realized it happens every time, but more constant and faster when there's an action scene! Thoughts?

I'm almost positive this is just normal noise for a disc drive. Honestly, from my experience (depending on the game) the disc drive is either silent, occasionally makes noise, or makes noise just about all the time. For example, during Call of Duty the disc drive is fairly quiet for me, yet when I play a game like Red Dead Redemption the disc drive tends to make a lot more noise. I don't know, this is just my experience, but I don't think noise is anything to be concerned about. Unless it REALLY bothers you, in which case I can only say either learn to deal with the noise or get some headphones to cover up the noise. Or get a different console. But again, this really isn't a problem as far as I'm concerned.

Sometimes eject the disc and reinsert it solves the problem...
