I got the yellow light about a week ago. sent it off to CD24-7 on wednesday got it back on thursday. They also increase the fan speed which is a 'unique mod'. But now whenevaer it is on it has a really loud sound, not a bad sound, you can just here the fan spinning constantly.

Sounds like they didn't add new thermal compound to the heatsinks and now the fan is doing more work.

What they probably did is put the fan at full speed all the time to help keep the system cool. That would at least be the best case scenario. I fixed mine myself and now it runs dead silent just like when it was new. But fixing the PS3 is hit or miss so I hope you got at least a little bit of a warranty included with the fix. I fixed a friend of a friends and his only lasted a week longer, I couldn't get it working a second time. He called Sony though and they said for $119 they will take his fat PS3 and exchange it for a refurb slim, which sounded pretty good. Especially since he has the 40gb.

lol I should hope a repair shop knows to do at least that... If they didn't replace it your PS3 is gonna die again. There's no need to increase the fan speed. Just reflow the mobo and replace the paste

When you speed up a quiet fan, you will hear it. Like when you're in a car, and the car goes faster, you can hear the motor get a bit louder. Speeding up the fan too much will shorten it's life.
