so when i take out the disc (usually cod), the disc gets quite hot. Should i be concerned about this and take any precautions?
My ps3 has about 4-5 inches of free space around it and the room is pretty cool. Can anyone help me?

It's normal, but it depends on how hot the disc gets, if it's just hot then it's normal, but if feels so hot that it could feel like it could melt then I say there is a problem. But "Quite hot" sounds normal to me. It cools off quickly too. Try feeling the disc 2 minutes after taking it out, if it's cooled off, then don't worry about it.

Yeah it's normal. I wouldn't say my discs are hot, but they are quite warm when they just come out after playing.

It should be normal. Are they really hot or just warm? My discs are usually cool because my PS3 is vertical, which runs it a bit cooler.

Put your PS3 in a mini freezer and run the cables out the back. That way it won't overheat.

I was playing the other day for 6 hours and usualy my ps3 stays cool. But while playing I heard a noise and thought my neighbor was vacuming his car or something. Then I realized it was my ps3, the fan had kicked into overdrive and when I put my hand up to the back of it thier was alot of air coming out. I had never seen it do this before it was humming realy loud. I noticed my room was realy warm and my PS3 must have been over heating. I turned it off to let it rest and now it seems fine adn quiet.

well a disc spinning at like 2500 rpm is gonna get a little toasty. also the hardware heating up will transfer some heat to the disc as well. in other words. you got nothing to worry about

I also have my system standing vertical in a open area and never take the disc out unless I am changeing the disc for another. As for the TC you really need more space around the console to allow air to flow through the system.

Yeah, this happened to me today as well. Same exact story except the neighbor part, lol. I quickly turned it off and let it rest and it was back to normal again. I noticed it started putting the fan in overdrive because of the weather. I live California so it's quite hot over here. My room was like a microwave so obviously my PS3 was cooking too and it had to kick it in overdrive to stay cool. This was the first time it ever happened. Now that the weather is cooler, my PS3 is running normally again. Time to buy an air conditioner, lol. With all these games coming out on the PS3 and Xbox 360, and my gosh GTA IV which I'll be playing hours on end. I could imagine my PS3 doing this again many nights if the weather doesnt cool down! lol.

i used to use my ps3 in a confined place just like you with about 4-5 inches around it. And it would get almost as loud as my x360.it would get pretty warm as well. I now have my ps3 in a very open area and it almost never gets loud. If it does start to get louder it only last a few min at the most.

How about a refrigerator? You don't exactly want to freeze your PS3 do you?
