The PSP was conceived as a handheld PS2, albeit an underpowered one. Whilst its graphics are truly remarkable for a handheld, it would be ridiculous to suggest that it is any better than the PS2.
Still, all power to the OP. Let him enjoy his PSP. We all did. :)

PS2: 300Mhz CPU, 32mb ram.
PSP: 333Mhz CPU, 32mb ram (64mb ram in the slim version)

This is correct. On top of that the PSP video chip can do things in hardware that the PS2 can only do in software, making it a bit more powerful.
Regarding those spec wars, remember that the PS2's processor was a 128-bit processor. You can't really compare the two, especially since devs aren't allowed to go past 222Mhz on the PSP due to battery issues. That said, it actually has more RAM than the PS2... everything else puts it about on the level of Dreamcast.

nope....Technically PSP is a little more powerful then the PS2. But i dunno why so many games dont look as good as the PS2. Eg FIFA. PES, Metal gear etc. But if u played FF7 crisis core...then u will know what the psp is really capable of.

Apart from the PSP's processor which is clocked at a higher speed than the PS2's one.
That's impossible; it's probably as good or better than PS2, but definately not as good as PS3. If you said that the gameplay was better than that of any game on PS3, I would most likely agree with you.

Yeah, I mean SOCOM FTB can't be even compared with SOCOM 2, which is a PS2 game. And Metal Gear Portable Ops, though it has nice graphics, I think Metal Gear Solid 2 is much better, as well as nº 1 but in this game we can compare some bits.
Maybe the developers don't want to waste so much time in graphics when its not seen in a TV? Of course, maybe now with the Slim...

Ok after a few diggings it seems that it is not as easy as PSP is more powerful then PS2. Technically the PS2 has more raw power and has close to double the graphics polygon power. However since the PSP's graphics chip has to render at a smaller resolution then the PS2 (like 2.4x less resolution), they can be considered about on par. As far as the developers go, from what I have read, it is much simpler to develop for the PSP and get the full power then it is for the PS2 due to the workings of multiple GPU's and CPU's in the PS2, versus single CPU and 3d unit. Regardless of the power it is the games that matter and PSP is finally starting to come into its own.

They are allowed to use 333Mhz now. I don't remember what the first game to use it was, but i'm sure God of War will.
either way ppl, psp has graphics on par with GRAET ps2 graphics, but not the full capacity of ps3, especially when u have a high def tv and the perfect setting for that perticular game.
