Right. We currently have a 46" 720p/1080i Sony Bravia TV. We've had it for over 12 months and the single HDMI port at the back has gone duff (Other ports work fine, TV's fine, nothing can be seen using the HDMI port. So, repairing/warrenty/selling is out of the question so we need a new TV.

If we're gonna shell out another £1000 or so on a TV, we may as well get a big of an upgrade. I've looked around and this TV is the size we want and Full HD. However i don't know if it's any good/value for money and most importantly good quality for HD and gaming.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-KDL46V3000-Widescreen-Bravia-Freeview/dp/B000W45M0W/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1206110512&sr=1-4

So i'm considering buying this TV. Now, i know this is more a audio/visual forum quesiton but it is SOOO slow so i'll make it relevant to this board. Obviously being a keen PS3 owner i will hopefully be enjoying full HD soon (if i go with this TV)

So, to sum up. I would like feedback as to the quality/value/anything else of the TV in the link.

AND

How much of a difference will i see between thiis 1900x1080p TV in the link, and a model over a year old that is 1366x768 (still 46") .

THANKS!

the new model that you will get will give you much better PQ when it comes to watching BD movies and it also has a better scaler for non HD sources. it will require slightly less calibrations out of the box but you should still get it calibrated to fit your lighting and viewing area. the obvious stuff will be the accuracy in the colors as well as the sharpness of HD sources. the black level is also improved dramatically. over all its a good upgrad for the money

That sure is a sexy TV homie. I think it would do you way better than when you had. I like that piano black finish on the TV because it matches the PS3. Be a good buy and the price is really great good luck buddy.

ah fantastic. Now, i know it's been asked a lot here but i've never really paid any attention to it cos i never had a 1080P TV. So, will i see much of a difference between 720p (i've been playing on to reduce jaggies) and now to 1080p? and what games support it that look good? (mainstream games, not so much things like baseball/football)

What is the warranty time where you live??? I would start by calling Sony even if it only has one year warranty. They may be nice about it - freaking HDMI port isn't supposed to just break

Yeah i know. Well the warrenty is 12 months, we've had it for 18. And it would probably be £200 or so to repair it so might as well go for a new one. The TV is fine, just the HDMI port at the rear doesn't want to work, Sky HD, PS3, neither using HDMi cables work.

sucks tho :(

Well any sony TV works well with a sony PS3, but just so you know, the only 1080p you'll be using is bluray and like 2 games. Almost all PS3 games are 720. i haven't played a 1080p game yet, so i can't tell you if the difference is big enough for a new TV, but blu-ray certainly is.

This proves my point about getting extended warranties on expensive electronics. you should have gotten at least 2 yr warranty.

It is a nice t.v . I wouldn't mind getting one if I didn't already have a 37" plasma. I plan on getting a laser or OLED when mine eventually wears out. Or I get a better paying job. ;)

1) just out of curiousity, have you tried another HDMI cable?

2) I'm not a mathmatician, but to spent $1,200 so that you won't have to spend $200 to repair your current one?

1) We haven't, but we have a Sky+ HD Box with a hdmi cable and a PS3 using a HDMI cable.. neither of which instantly didn't work in the TV at the same time a couple days ago

2) Firstly it's £1100 ($2200), and well we thought a bit of an upgrade to a newer model (ours is one of the oldest models) and the upgrade to 1080p would be better than just sending it off for god knows how long, with a possibility of not being able to fix it for a fair amount of money.

As someone stated above - the second question is of maybe 720p picture would be good enough. Any stores around that allows you to buy a cable and then return it? If so get a component (scart with RGB) and compare the pictures.... Might convince you to wait a few months

Buy it! These days the minimum number of HDMI ports you NEED is two. Your Sky will look amazing through that tele as will the PS3. The menus and most PSN games run in 1080p as does RR7 and stuff like GT5 Prologue etc and looks amazing..

For real stunning show PLEASE buy Planet Earth on Blu Ray. Combined with a decent SSound sytem the quality is Gobsmaking.

Soo good it got my Gran to buy a HDTV! 1080 Stuff converts the Non tech Savvy!
