I Installed the 2.43 update to my Playstation 3, after the update my PS3 became unresponsive and would not spin up games.

I then finally contacted PS3 and was greeted bye a male, he asked if I still had my receipt and I said yes.

He then asked for the date on the receipt, and it was one year and one week past the date of purchase.

He, took my name address and told me about my nephew who lives with me and had purchased a differant PS3 and we have 2 PS3's.

He then began to ask me what my PS3 was doing and I told him it was unresponsive and that it wouldn't even spin up a game after I installed 2.43 update.

He said that I could send in my playstation for a tuneup and it would cost me $168.00 dollors US.

I then became a little upset and told him this was not due to the fact that my Playstion didn't work but due to the fact of Playstations update.

He then repied Sir you can send it in for a fee of $168.00 again.

I became very pissed off and said my playstion 2 were sent in and replaced for free for 2 or 3 years and I told him I had purchased alot of sony equipment even my 60 inch plasma was a Sony, my 24 inch computer moniter was also a Sony and that I wouldn't be purcasing any more Sony Radios, TV's or paying 168.00 to tune up my PS3.

I said so what is there I could do? He then Replied with you could try to vaccum it out, if that dont work you could take the PS3 apart and vaccum it out and clean it inside. However I must warn you this voids the manufactures warrenty.

I said, I will not be taking my PS3 apart, I will submitt a petition online as I have read more people than me having the same problem and that after I have a list of a couple thousand I would consult my attorney.

I greeted him with you can tell your manager, or your boss that and I hung up the phone.

Now, after this pissed me off I thought what can I do, first thing I did was put a movie in the Ps3 and it spun right up... and played with no problem.

However I put the Games back in and they simply would not even spin up, and Madden which was and still is brand new I might add.

Now After, it would play the Movie, I was more pissed. So I called the Sony Playstation support again and was greeted buy a very nice young ladie, who ask me my name, my reciept and DOP. I gave it to her and she said now whats the problem.

I told her after I installed 2.43 update my PS3 would not play a game but it would play a movie just fine.

She then asked me if I had used the default settings, and I said yes.

She then told me Sony would fix my PS3, and even though my warrenty was Out of date, Sony would doit for free this time.

Sony sent be a box, to send my PS3 to them, including tape and pre-paid postage for me to send to them my PS3.

I thought this might be a help to the community of Playstation 3 owners and I feel it might just deserve a sticky in a PS3 community.

If you have a problem be sure to tell sony it will read a movie but not a game. ;)

sad to get the run around. But all big business is the same. They are about saving themselves money. Not spending it.

True I suppose, but I believe the PS3 is being advertised as having less than 3% of problems with the PS3, I know thats total BS now, and I also think the first guy tried to coax me insto opening my PS3 and voiding the warrenty.

Therefore, I thought I would post it on the forum and Sony and that guy at Sony Support can kiss me where the sun don't shine.;)

Sony customer service has always failed me, but I do tend to get aggrivated easy over problems with gaming. SOE is my worst enemy, back in my Everquest / planetside and SWG days.. I watched them push away every customer that didnt take it in the rear for them ={ Though when my ps3 died, I still had me warranty, didnt have to go through the loops , I feel bad for you bud, I know how that feels =/

I wish someone with a blog or website that gets a decent number of hits would tell the public that in order for you to get a PS3 worked on for free, even though it may be out of date they may have to tell Sony that it will spin up a movie but not a game and the system settings are on default.

The fact that I feel that Sonys support tried to lead me towards opening my PS3 and voiding my warrenty really pisses me off.

I mean if he warns me of voiding my warrenty after my warrenty has already passed. What were his intentions?

There have been such problems in the past and have been solved by cleaning the lens of Blu ray drive.But again it all depends on how the owner has kept his console.Many kids on gamespot nowadays.

i had a good expireance with sony CS, my 60 gig ps3 from launch decided to freeze on me every so often, so i signed up to sonys continuous play service plan that costs £5 a month and i get unlimited replacements of ps3 ( mind you i dont have warranty cuz it rang out, so this is my only option) anyways i rang them after signing up online and the kind chap told me my ps3 was still in warranty something to do with sony giving extended warranty on 60 gig models so i decided to go with that, and i got a replacement sent to me within 3 days, they didnt send me a box to send off, they set a courrier to pick it up and exchange it with a referb 60 gig model, and it looks brand new. very pleased :)
