[QUOTE="PetJel"]Imagine downloading 35Gb worth of GoW3... Thats gotta sting!! Yeah and what about 50GB Metal Gear 4 or Uncharted ( which i think is almost 50gb) plus the waiting for the installation if they can install them to the hard drive.I can see how people can pirate a game or two on the pc but on a console is just so.. "meh" or something. Just buy the game. :\

It's good and I think whoever is upset about it doesn't understand the first thing about piracy. If you buy used games from GameSpot or eBay, you might as well be pirating because the publisher sees the same amount of money in either case (zero). Also a downloaded game does not usually equal a lost sale, like some believe seem to believe.
Finally I gotta say I'm surprised at how big a deal people are making out of this device. It's expensive and completely unnecessary at this point in the region-free PS3's lifecycle. For that price you might as well buy whatever you wanted to play used, without any of the hassle or uncertainty. When people figure out how to softmod the PS3 for free, call me :D
it's not good.. it means people will steal games and then sony will try more and more to go the digital download route which will make it worse for players in the long run (see PSP GO). gamers should just pay developers for the games they love... they'll actually enjoy them more than just downloading a ton of stuff for no reason and then not playing any of it.
[QUOTE="pooyanh"]It's not even discussable. It's just wrong. I hope all those who make/use this jailbreak rot in hell.Venom_Raptor
Totally agree
i agree that gamers should pay for games because it's a hobby they support and love. but piracy is discussable, and it's never absolutely, morally wrong. for instance, if a game is not released in your country i think you have the right to download it. if you're really poor through no fault of your own you should be entitled to D/L a game. if you dislike a company because of their politics and influence but want to play their game and NOT finance their new yacht or legal fees or whatever (*cough* activisionbobbykotick *cough*), then i don't care - that's a good reason. a lot of these companies.. they just care about money and they're often motivated by greed, not games. i say support the good developers. there's no absolute right or wrong. You're right. I've met people who pirate games for certain consoles and have told me that they get addicted getting every game and end up having them for nothing and only playing one or two. It seems that pirates just want to get all the games they can without paying just for ego.it's not good.. it means people will steal games and then sony will try more and more to go the digital download route which will make it worse for players in the long run (see PSP GO). gamers should just pay developers for the games they love... they'll actually enjoy them more than just downloading a ton of stuff for no reason and then not playing any of it.

People will always try to find ways of screwing the system.
I agree that piracy is wrong, and that it affects devs etc.
But I also agree that the games are way too expensive on launch, and now devs are complaining that they can't get full price for preowned and trade in games.
I don't mind paying full price for a game providing it's a quality product, but I'd never pay full price for something thats preowned.
Or am I going off topic a bit?
[QUOTE="dantesergei"][QUOTE="Dahaka-UK"]closed minded. Its a hard world and the majority of people cant afford paying 60 freaking dollars for a game. Its mankind's DNA they want to try it, they want to play it to be happy its no like they say " yeah piracy its a bad thing therefore im not going to play anything just for the sake of a multibillionere company " Piracy will always be present like it or not. If they cant afford to pay 60 frickn dollars for a game then ether they should not waist time playing games and get a better job ect or they should wait till the game drops in price and or buy it used. people can make all the silly excuses they want but the fact is software pirates are scum bag thieves. Icant afford to pay 80 thousand frickn dollars for a corvette so i suppose its ok if a steal one every now and then right? hey i cant afford 50 frickn dollars for a lobster dinner every night so i should break in to some ones house at 2am and steall there stuff so i can pawn it and get my lobster dinner! i mean after all the world owes me things . im entitled to products that some one else creates with out haveing to pay them! lol that's what i'd spend my money on if i didn't play video games. lobster dinners. lol.All really poor excuses to open the gateway to piracy and no people DON'T have the right to do whatever they want with their ps3s. They have the right to do what Sony allowed them to do.

I could be wrong here but...
I think that in order to copy PS3 games you'll not only have to get blu-ray disks but also a blu-ray burner, which adds up to more that a thousand bucks.
Mix that money with all the work it takes to set it all up and the time it takes to download each gigantic file from the web...
If anybody do all that and is willing to risk their PS3's and their accounts for the "project" then...
I think these people have earned the right to download, its more of a rebel thing than a pirate thing.

1000 bucks for a burner!?!?! No way you can buy them in UK for like £120 and that's everything you need.... Im not suggesting anything just the facts that it does not cost 1000 bucks.
2x - Black 50Gb disc - under £10 about $18....
Blu-Ray writer - under £90 about $150
A thousand bucks HAHAHA!!!
(...)Piracy doesn't have nearly the impact most think.(...)i5750at4GhzMaybe not on the PS1 or PS2 days, today internet is in much more houses, its never been easier to get pirated software, its not even the 10 bucks people use pay to a guy they know, its 100% free. Couple that with the ever more expensive production (see how little exclusives there are now a days?) and there is a big problem. Just recently didn't Crytek said for every Crysis they sold there were 40 pirate copies? And console games are much more expensive, so its easy to imagine people going dark side more easily. Homebrew software is really cool, but this will always be a gateway to piracy so i think its fair that Sony protects the system anyway they can, even with the remove other OS, who needs a "PC" with 32MB of ram?
I think its already patched :P Problem is the makers are suing Sony because of it, they pretty much wanna make it legal in the grounds that its not for pirated software, problem is its a gateway to it, kinda like the how "Other OS" function was being used to hack the PS3 and try to run pirated games from the HDD. Removing that wasn't pretty, but honestly I don't even know anyone that used that and like I said before, only 32MB were available to be used if I'm not mistaken, so its not like a BIG lost. Unfortunately leaving this out will mean homebrew software will stay outside in the rain too =/ but honestly i can live with that.you can download any ps3 game and download it for free :) sony should patch it soon.

I would like to have the option to copy whole (my original, purchased) games onto an HDD and run it from there as well. At least the online games which are most played.IT is good, why not, i want to keep my blueray drive in a good condition. why not?

Piracy diminishes the ability to make profit for everyone involved in the production process. This in turn drives up the cost of games, as the developer/Sony/whoever needs to compensate for all the money lost to pirates, who pirated because the product costs too much. What came first, the chicken or the egg?jakecufc8888
For those who say that the above statement is false:
No matter how negligable you believe piracy to be on the market, it's one of the main reasons companies use to raise prices on the rest of the community. It's how they justify price hikes, and re-sale licenses, etc.
The only people who think piracy is alright have never had something they created stolen from them. They're brain-dead bottom-feeders, and they can **** a **** from my ***.

Damn bro! Seriously though, it makes me sick to see people say that piracy is "free speech" and completely justifiable. To be honest, they aren't doing nothing wrong while doing something wrong. I mean, they find a way to JB the PS3. They aren't forcing anyone to do it. Personally I wouldn't crack my playstation, I'd keep it original. You just have a choice. Just imagine how the console would sell if they can crack it and run downloaded games on it, wii style. It's quite hard to download a blu ray game though.

Wow, I was way off... Then to hell with the pirate bastards
Back in the day when I was too poor to afford games I had to resort to piracy for my gaming needs. Now that I can afford games I'm actually buying back the games I used to download off the internet. So I guess in my case it's a win-win situation for the devs.
