I was playing COD:MW2 on my original 60gb ps3 and it all of a sudden shut off on me and I saw the YLOD, then it blinks red over and over. I rushed to my ps3 box in my closet b/c I had bought a 2 year warranty coverage at Best Buy when I bought it, but with my luck the coverage ended a few months ago...

I wanted to know what is my best option at this point, should I send it to sony have them repair it (I heard that repairing it by sony can be alittle costly and takes some time.) or try to fix it myself or convince best buy they should still replace it for me?

EDIT: Also, my MW2 is still stuck inside of the system!

Getting it fixed by Sony will cost $150 or if you're feeling brave you can try and fix it yourself with this video. You could also find a local repair shop, since they tend to be cheaper.

Send it to Sony is the best choice. Or if you dont mind spending the money buy the new slim. I wouldnt attempt to fix the YLOD by myself unless you really know what your doing.

I would just buy a new Slim and then hammer your old PS3 and claim your prize.

fixing it yourself would be extremely complicated. i saw the video on youtube back when my old 'fat' PS3 got the YLOD... 3 times! i had to send it in for repair 3 times! i would buy a new PS3 slim just like i did b/c if you do get it repaired, it'll be a waste b/c it'll YLOD again. i just got sick & tired of my old PS3 crapping out on me...

EDIT: i got the YLOD 3 times, all while playing MW1 @_@

Well if you feel you can fix it and have the right tools then go for it otherwise have sony/repair company fix it, buying a new PS3 just seems like a waste to me. I personally would atleast try and fix just for the experience...
