I'm not sure if this can be discussed here but, I was just reading today about how Linux can be installed on a PS3 and the options that it enables for software that is Linux compatible. I do have a few questions though to anyone who has already done this or is knowledgeable about it. Will installing Linux on my PS3 get me banned from PSN such as when Xbox 360's are modded? Does it slow down or make the PS3 run badly, or make games/blu ray movies run poorly? If this topic cannot be discussed here, then I apologize and please lock this thread.

linux doesnt get rid of anyfeatures, ur fine with everything online and such with the network cause you boot out of the PS3 os and boot up a dif one so its still fine. No slowdowns here, what I will say is that you have to install a bunch of programs to be able to run movies and blurays in linux, or to even watch DVDs and play music. Unless you get a build with those included. Linux is pointless so far because you cant use the GPU even though I got it on my PS3.

I've done it. It's pretty easy if you follow the steps on www.psubuntu.com, but it's a waste of time. It's perfectly legal, and maybe even encouraged. It changes nothing on the PS3, but it ends up a gimmick. I've used it like 3 times on my system, so I ended up deleting it... it took up 15 gigs, so yeah.
