The PS3 accesses media via the XMB but unfortunately, it ain't great. No playlists, the organisation leaves something to be desired, and it's not ideal. Good news is that you can stream media to your PS3 from your PC, or stream media from your PS3 to any internet capable computer, and soon, you'll be able to record tv directly to your PS3

I'm not familiar with the 360 media funtionality, but I know the PS3 can:

a. Read just about any kind of disc you can shove into it, from cds to blu-ray (HD-DVD FTL).

b. Be setup to recieve streaming media over your network from your PC.

c. Read media off storage devices which connect via USB, as well as multiple types of Flashcard readers.

d. Easy and quick to navigate through the XMB to find image, audio, and video files.

e. When Home is released, you will be able to play video or audio in your Home, or have images hanging on your wall like digital art pieces, which people invited in your home can view/listen to.

f. Little Big Planet will allow you to upload images off your HDD to use as decals and graphics on the things you create.

In conclusion, the PS3 was made to be a multi-media entertainment system as well as a gaming console.

actually using windows media player 11 you can set up your music and whatever however you want, and then share that over to the PS3. i currently have mine set up that way and it operates flawlessly.

I actually discovered the streaming function today. Took a while to ghet it to work properly fr streaming video, since i was trying to watch divx. I got nero 7 and using nero media home i can now stream whatever i want to my tv trough my ps3. Just been watching an episode of heroes and it works like a charm. The thing is though using nero you could the same using a 360. Nero support on the fly recoding so any video format can be played by both consoles.

The XMB is very smooth and very easy to use. I like it a lot.
