I'm planning on getting a HDTV for my room, I think I'm gonna get a 36" tv, caus my room isn't that big, but does it matter if the TV is 1080p with that size? Will the difference between 720p and 1080p be big enough to wait longer for 1080p prices to drop, or should I get a 720p/1080i tv in the summer? I just dont know what to do, caus I heard that all the great games like MGS4 and Lair will be in 1080p. But I also heard that 1080p resolution only shows on 42" and larger.

to me it does not mater look for a tv with a high contrast ratio like 3000:1 or higher if you can, good response times like 8ms or if lower great, and good colors something that will say deeper blacks brighter whites resolution is the last thing you should worry about when debating 720p to 1080p IMO

Wich is better for 36" plasma or lcd? I heard plasma's have 0 ms response time and contrast ratio's upto 10000:1, but then again lcd's have better brightness and use less electricity and dont have burn-in.

Apparently Plasma's are horrible for gaming.

Actually, I read in posts that Plasmas are better than LCD's. Sorry, but I don't have the link to the thread.

I disagree that Plasmas are better than LCDs...

Also with a lot of plasmas.. (however I have heard claims that there starting to resolve this with newer or more expensive plasmas) that the Ammo counters and Radar/timers etc burn in to the TV.. irreversable damage!!

LCD is the better value because the differentiation between a LCD and Plasma have narrowed.  And don't slight yourself by getting a 720p TV even though it's content enough.  Most bought 720ps because they were affordable and 1080ps were not.  Right now you can get a good 1080p set for under $1,500.  Wait a little while longer and you can get it cheaper than that.  I'm definately getting a 46 inch Sony or Samsung 1080p LCD because the games support it.  Knowing that Lair supports 1080p and if I only had a 720p set I'd feel like I need to upgrade.  I don't care if the difference is 1%.

Plasmas have the worst response times and burn in for games. LCD seems to be the best when playing video games. And btw, no on makes a 36" 1080p set, it would be a waste. Anything lower than 40 isn't barely noticeable unless you sit 6 inches away from the screen.

I have a 50' 1080p Plasma and nothing said in this thread applies to my set... I'm sensing a LCD fanboys group here.

I"ve got a 42" plasma 720p. I've never witnessed any substantial amount of burn on my TV. All my friends say this plasma is much better then their LCD. I've seen their LCD's and I would agree with them. But both are just great for gaming. The only time I've had a problem w/ a game was Guitar Hero. The calibration  on that game solved that problem.

it seems you know the basics so just shop around and view the two differnt types of tv your thinking of getting..

the savy shopper does his reasearch before dropping good cash on anything!

just rember that.

You really should never post again in a tv thread.

THX seating distances are more than close enough to see 1080p vs 720p/1080i.  And plasmas are the second best way to play a video game , behind CRTs.  Embarassing how people come into forums and say random crap that is as inaccurate as possible.Â
