I was just downloading an update for VidZone when just as it finished, my ps3 just swiched itself off! Arrrgghhhh!!Now I can't turn it back on, the red light just flashes whenever I try. I have had my 60gb since oct 07 and I really do not want to have it replaced as I NEED my backwards compatibility. What's worse is that my Uncharted 2 disc is stuck in the drive and I cannot get it out since I can't even power up the system. I heard it needs to cool down but I have been looking on the internet and people have said it is a permanent problem. If I am forced to get a new one, will my PSN be retrievable (and my trophies plus friends), and my saved games? I'm sorry for the long post but could somebody please tell me if they have experienced the problem and tell me if I can do anything to get the disc out. What is this the Red Light of Death, lol.

I guess you could try leaving it 4 a while to completely cool down if it needs to. Sounds 2 me though like theres a hardware problem, in which case you should call sony.

i got the red blinking light as well. it was a sad day. I couldn't get my disc out, but I sent it all to sony and they got it out and sent me my replacement. I had to pay since it was out of warranty but it was well worth it to keep my BC model.

Turn your ps3 off at the switch at the back, hold your finger on the eject button, then turn it on, whilst still holding the eject button. It'll initiate the fan test and eject the disc. Worked on my 40gb, so should work on the 60gb too.You have a dead ps3 though i'm afraid! I'm betting there's a yellow light very briefly before the red starts flashing, hence the YLOD! I hate being the bearer of bad news!!

The idea you had though didn't work, but i guess I will have to get a new one! Also I cannot move the ps3 or i might risk the disk inside cracking!

For some reason, the fan test feature was only implemented on 40GB models and beyond.

You will keep your friends and trophies you gained, but all your saves will be gone.

Speaking to Sony, they reckon its a problem that might have been caused by software such as an actual ps3 game, I was thinking that it might be because of uncharted 2. The trophy problem (when trophies dont sync) was happening with me (I heard its to do with changing the password to your psn), and I heard it can damage games. Uncharted 2's cutscenes were mucking up (it's hard to explain how, but it was like when a channel has poor connection on sky tv) and I think that could of caused the problem, they will send me the same console back though because (correct me if I'm wrong) the slimline is the only ps3 now on the market and they wont give me that. I hope they save my ps3:)
