The only thing that is completely region free are PS3 games. DVDs, Blu-Ray movies, PS2 games and PSOne still have their region coding enforced.

Anyway, with HD TVs it doesn't matter anymore : it's a new format. PS3 games are not zoned :  a European PS3 will play Japanese, USA and European PS3 games. Blu-ray movies are zoned however : zone A (not 1) is Japan and USA, zone 2 is Europe. BUT many zone A movies (S.W.A.T., Aeon flux, Sky captain, Tears of the sun, Underworld 2 ...) are all zone and can play on PS3s from all over the world. Some online shops (Amazon.com, HDmoviesource) indicate if movies are zone A only or all zone.

Hope it helped.

And the game thing is only because Sony got B**** slapped by Australia for monopolistic practices due to restrictive copy protection control which was basically the region control bit IIRC. Thx Aussies ;)

The Blu-Ray region protection thing SUX tho. H8 being stuck with EU :(

Wish we were in the same region / number as JP and USA so I could imports :)

Ade.

Just got my US version of Oblivion and I'm gratefull that you can import now. Caus now if I buy a game for 72 dollars (including shipping and import fees) Its still cheaper than the usual 60 euro's AND you get the game way sooner than having to wait for the EU version.

I didn't realise PS3 games were zone free, I just assumed they would be like all other products. That is great news for Ebaying second hand games from the USA as we are usually months behind here in europe with everything else. Will this now mean that Game developers will be doing simultaneous world-wide releases of games instead of the old format to stop us importing second hand games thus causing loss of income?
