seriously i mean if you switch too the lowest setting maybe it will run ok without craches. why i think of this every time i see a ps3 YLOD video on youtube they all got a Full HDgrootelaarThats because everyone has a full HD.
I have to disagree...ps# looks amazing on HD full 1080p..never seen any problems..my experience samsung are the best sets to use..
i mean that the gpu and cpu heats more up and afther a day of intense gameing well it will melt the small wire's of the gpu and cpu chip causing the YLOD
Im very confident this is BS. If you continuously get a YLOD then you are abusing your hardware, or have the luck of a dodo bird.budboarder

Yes using hardware to its full will cause more heat, but as long as its kept in check, there isnt a problem. Its not like you are stickin it in a kiln and baking it.

Then why do they put bigger fan's in too the new GPU's they overhead faster with a small fan

Well, all in one it sounds strange. I'm pretty sure the PS3 shuts down if it gets to hot :/ Only thing I could possible imagine is that the upscaling part on the Ps3 can cause errors in older models. The information wether or not the ppl used to force 1080p or they run the games natively could be interessting, but I guess that it has nothing to do with it

Wait is this a serious thread :?
anyway i can say that no, that statement right there is wrong, why? Because my ps3 YLOD on a tv that only supports up to 720p, but it had nothing to do with the tv, it was from years of misuse from the previous owner and giant dust balls floating around the processors... not the tv.
I call BS
All it is is the resolution output via the wire. The settings on the ps3 (720p,1080p) just tells you how many more lines there will be on your screen. Has nothing to do with the fact with the TV itself. Thats like saying 360 gets RROD because its having issues running on HDTV.

The PS3 is ment for hi-def media. Ive had my PS3 hooked up to a 1080p 120hz 47 inch sony BRAVIA and Ive never had a problem in the two years ive owned it..

do you realize what your saying? There's absolutely no nexus between TV type and the PS3 hardware.
the PS3 doesn't care which TV you're using; it will still run all games at optimal capacity regardless of whether you're using an HDTV or not. How is this not common sense?
Does you PC break down when you're using a flat screen monitor instead of the classic tube one? Of course not. Because one thing has nothing to do with the other.

don't know about all that but i love playing my ps3 on my big 55 inch hdtv:D
I was on a SDTV for 6 month with my PS3. Then I got the HD and now I've been on it for about a year. It's been perfect. No problems at all. DiabeticDood
