Im very confident this is BS. If you continuously get a YLOD then you are abusing your hardware, or have the luck of a dodo bird.

HA, wow you really have no idea about the construction of modern computers do you? Yes using hardware to its full will cause more heat, but as long as its kept in check, there isnt a problem. Its not like you are stickin it in a kiln and baking it.

This is either a carefully crafted troll job or some kind of supreme ignorance. I just don't even know what to say. Perhaps in theory the less stress on the hardware, the less likely it is to "crache" but the system was MADE for high-def gaming and multimedia. If that were the case, the failure rate for the PS3 would be much higher than it is and their problems would be much more significent. I am not sure whether I believe the OP or whether or not he's just pulling our legs.

Well, all in one it sounds strange. I'm pretty sure the PS3 shuts down if it gets to hot :/ Only thing I could possible imagine is that the upscaling part on the Ps3 can cause errors in older models. The information wether or not the ppl used to force 1080p or they run the games natively could be interessting, but I guess that it has nothing to do with it

anyway i can say that no, that statement right there is wrong, why? Because my ps3 YLOD on a tv that only supports up to 720p, but it had nothing to do with the tv, it was from years of misuse from the previous owner and giant dust balls floating around the processors... not the tv.

I call BS

All it is is the resolution output via the wire. The settings on the ps3 (720p,1080p) just tells you how many more lines there will be on your screen. Has nothing to do with the fact with the TV itself. Thats like saying 360 gets RROD because its having issues running on HDTV.

actually, thats almost exactly what causes the ylod. the cpu and gpu get so hot the solder holding them in place partially melts and they get loose

do you realize what your saying? There's absolutely no nexus between TV type and the PS3 hardware.

the PS3 doesn't care which TV you're using; it will still run all games at optimal capacity regardless of whether you're using an HDTV or not. How is this not common sense?

Does you PC break down when you're using a flat screen monitor instead of the classic tube one? Of course not. Because one thing has nothing to do with the other.

A analog signal needs more amps to run correctly. These amps also create extra heat. A digital signal uses mili-amps (millionth of a amp) to run and create vertually no heat. LCD and LED TV's use digital signals that require far less power to run.

I don't get your logic? An SDTV or HDTV for that matter,is only showing the output of PS3. They're both independent...

I knew my ps3 was jealous of how awesome my 70 inch 1080p made me feel when i turned it on. So i got a new tv and was forced by wife to put the ps3 on the 42 inch tv which is set 720 cuz thats what most games support best. Do you think its the size? Does ps3 hate certain brands?

???

My PS3 is hooked up to a full HDTV capable monitor (1080p via HDMI) and never had problems with it (in fact the only serious problem I had with my PS3 was trying to get it to work on a LOWER resolution display).
