PS3 sales up by 700%

After the PS3's price was lowered by 10,000 Yen in Japan, the sales shot up by over 700%. Here's a quote from the page:

On September 3, the price of the PS3 was dropped by ¥10,000 to ¥29,980 from the previous price of ¥39,990. In that week, 150,832 units were sold. By October 11, Sony had seen a 707 percent increase in PS3 sales in Japan.From the Clicky

PS3 alraedy won the Japanese market years ago since the 360 only manage to do 1 million after 5 years on the market and PS3 already sold 4X as much and now this 700% boost..... Microsoft really needs to revitalize and focus their vital attacks on storming Japan and dethrone the Sony's grip. Sadly, Microsoft now is facing critical attacks from Sony everwhere around the globe....

Idk, i thought asians found a cure for the RROd when i heard the xbox sold there like crazy, but i guess sony is the king of the ring in the east.Javieralijandro

if sony can keep this luck up then they will eventually catch up lol

i prefer sony stuff...but it did take them a while to get the right price for the ps3

The PS3 moved swiftly fast the 360 in sales once it was lowered to $299 and a Slim came out. Outselling it by 85,000 to 200,000 per week world wide.

I dont think that the price cut is the only factor influencing these purchases and the 700 % increase in sales. Yes, it is in majority because of that but the ps3 had an unbeatable line-up of games in October and more to come in November, so despite the price drop, certain games released in that time frame were ps3 system sellers. I'm just so happy to be a ps3 gamer, the time couldn't be any better :D

Everyone knew a change was coming to the point where stock was actually pulled off the shelves in Japan

The reason that number is so high is because the sales went from close to nothing to something

To look at this as a good omen for the PS3 is the wrong way to look at it.

2 months does not mean anything. The momentum for the sales has already dropped considerably. It's great that it can be sold at a good price and that it is selling "well" They need to work more on advertising. This years fall lineup was cool but last year's was better. Sony had Resistance 2, Little Big Planet, Valkyria Chronicles, Motorstorm 2 and a couple others. Overall though if you look at it for the whole year, both 08 and 09 were equal. Also Forza 3 has not come out yet. Sony will do well, but all the mainstream games are still multiplat. I was talking to some people about games the other day. They only want PS3's for FF 13 vs and "Kingdom Hearts 3." Sony needs to start being more aggressive with advertising.

150,000 in one week is still impressive but the numbers in the article aren't all that clear. 150,000 in the first week and 700% after one month. Did it sell so well in the following weeks? Did the 150,000 account for a large part of the 700% increase? Hard to say, but I think the average week of sales in Japan has been about 20,000 so that 700% might not be so high because of lack of sales leading up to the price cut.
